Guest Rob1960 Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I would appreciate opinions on the best source for glass to replace a broken window in the driversdoor of my 1936 Dodge 2-door. Should I try to find a used original glass? Or have a new replacement cut, using the old one as a template? A fellow at the garage managed to break mine this morning while rolling it up. I probably need a new roll up/down mechanism as well since the window has been stiff to roll up or down for some time. I maybe need new tracks too, since all the mechanism will have to come out to replace the glass. I appreciate advice on that too. Thanks, Robt
DodgeSavesUMoney Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Rob,From a safety approach, I would go for a safety glass replacement from your local glass shop. Some of the others on the forum can correct me, but I believe, even in serious judging, that no points are deducted if you have safety glass.
jpage Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi Rob: I think that it's best to just go to a good glass shop and have a new window cut. It's not only cheaper but you'll hunt a long time to find a good original glass in good condition. You're probably right in your assumption that the runs are bad. That car has "batwing" channels in the lower front and upper rear of the door. I can rebuild those for you if need be 'cause they're not available new. There is also a short pc. of deep channel along the top. You may also check the regulator channels for wear on the roller tracks or rollers too. I'll give you a call when I find that rod. Thanks Jim
