Home auto repair ordinance in Pima County, AZ

The Pima County Board of Supervisors has approved an ordinance that will allow a person to work on their own automobile on their property. The restriction is that repairs must be done within 60 days or the vehicle will have to be screened from neighbors' view. Originally, the county wanted to prohibit ALL personal repair work on private vehicles unless it was out of view (behind a fence or in a garage). This ordinance applies to the greater Tucson area including Marana, Oro Valley and Vail. More information can be found at this link.

Look the other direction then, you have 360' of views available to ponder and at least 300' worth that you won't see the truck in. There is nothing I hate more than neighbors minding the business of other people's property and vehicles. That leads right down the road to getting old cars crushed. In my opinion part of living in a free country where people are able to do as they choose, is having to accept the fact that some people will do things you may not agree with, but it is their choice to do so and your opinion of what is junk does not trump their right to own such an item or their property rights.

This law is fairly reasonable, though, unless you're completely restoring a car the odds are small on it taking 60 days to perform individual repairs. If you've blown a car that far apart, you'd want it indoors anyhow.

Friends, an older member of our club owned about 10 acres of land in back of his home The home was in a rural aera. A man that went to school with his son and had visited the home many times while growing up knew of about 25 cars in the back yard. You couldnt see the house from the road let alone the cars hidden in back, but the man knew they where there. He was givin the job of code inforsement and wanting the brownie pts. the first thing he did was order the removal of those cars, some of them forty years old and most restorable. NOT just parts cars. Sad to say, most where crushed. You dont own your land you just rent it till some one complanes.

If the cars had been in plain view, that's one thing, but to be hidden from public view and only visible by going onto the property...that would have been grounds for an asskicking, or at the very least a blanket party. That's just common, to enjoy someone's hospitality and then turn on them like that.

Reinforces my opinion that most if not all government "agents" have no mores or scruples. It's why I generally laugh loud when one of them gets his arse in a sling, as DA Mike Nifong in Durham NC has done. It is my hope that he is not only disbarred for his incompetence, but made to face criminal charges for his actions. Yup- he wanted political brownie points too. I'd say he got them in spades.
