1933 DeSoto 2dr convertible sedan

I was at a local car meet yesterday. There was a very nice 1933 DeSoto 2dr convertible sedan there. The owner stated that it was the only one in existance and that it may have been owned by Eleanor Roosevelt. Is he correct? I hate it when someone tries to "put one over". Russ

Rings a faint bell. I recall seeing pics of President Roosevelt at Warm Springs resort in Georgia, behind the wheel of an early 30s Dodge or Plymouth convertible with hand controls.

Did a Google search for "Roosevelt DeSoto" and came up with this picture.

So there was a 1933 DeSoto built for Roosevelt with special hand controls. It could be the same car.

Here is an article with pictures of Roosevelt in his Plymouth convertible with hand controls. It is not the same car as in the DeSoto pics, note the fixed windshield on the DeSoto vs. the folding Plymouth windshield.

He Claims it to be the Roosevelt car because it has a spot light hole puttied up. Thats not enough proof for me. I think it would still have to have the hand controls or evidence that they were there. Around here we are not ones to believe in there are x cars known to remain. Here is proof its not the only one "known".

I agree....there is no way to tell how many of this model of car still exist.
