Guest maherj2 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Anyone planning on going to Bowling Green yet? I'm thinking of leaving from Northern Wisconsin on Friday morning for an all day drive to the meet. It might be fun to get a caravan going....
rocketraider Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I'm planning to go, provided work doesn't jam me out of it like it has everything else I wanted to do this year. A month ago there were no maintenance shutdowns scheduled anywhere near my car stuff. Last week, there was one straddling everything I wanted to do.Caravans work well if everybody's on the same wavelength as far as travel speeds and break times. Plus there's just something impressive about a string of Oldsmobiles traveling together. We stayed on a lot of 2 and 4 lane roads going to Lansing in 97 and made pretty good time, plus we got a lot of attention and thumbs-up along the way.I need to make me hotel and show reservations too... the closest I can narrow down the car is it will be the 1976 Ninety Eight or the 97 Bravada. I don't fool with having them judged anymore so it really makes no difference.I need to light a fire under MCR to get some info posted on here.
Pat Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Better hurry. Host hotel and Courtyard across the street is booked. I got in the Fairfield a few miles down the street. Suck! They will put you on a call list if a room opens up but the gal said its a long list. My guess is its a small hotel or a huge turnout very early.
Oldsfan Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I was told the Courtyard had rooms, just not at the special OCA rate. But that was a month ago, so the situation may have changed. For those interested, on the way home from Dallas last year I stayed at a very nice Microtel a little bit away from the show site, right off the interstate. Cracker Barrel within walking distance. Took me maybe 5 minutes to get to the show site.Paul
Guest maherj2 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Courtyard and Hol Inn appear to be out of rooms at any price. I wonder if there is something else going on that weekend? I got in at one of the hotels at exit 22. The Drury, hope it isn't a dog. No judging for me this year, no time. I plan on leaving the Green Bay area early Friday morning and arriving early evening. It's got to be a 10-11 hour drive from here. I'll keep watching for posts as we get closer, it could be fun to have a Friday parade to the site.
imported_Badger Guy Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Paul was right. The Courtyard had rooms, but not at the OCA discount price. I got a room for 4 nights at $139.00 a night. My wife and I are going. But we plan on going Wednesday or Thursday. Take our time getting there. We don't plan on taking in to many of the planed events. To damn expensive after paying for the motel.I'm trying to get the 67 done so we can drive it down.Tom
Oldsfan Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Ouch! I think my room at the Courtyard is only $105 or $109, and that, I'm almost sure, was not the "special" rate. But those reservations were made months ago...Paul
imported_Badger Guy Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 The price goes up the closer they get to being full. I got my room in November. Just for the hell of it, I checked the cost for the week after. $88 (with "my old man card") to $109. They wouldn't take my "old man card" for the week of the show. Special events are excluded. My wife just won't be able to eat. I on the other hand, will have to eat to keep my strengh up for polishing the car. But at 255 I could skip a few meals myself.Tom
Guest beverly933 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I would like to join a caravan. I am leaving from Virginia near Richmon (Va). Anybody interested?
WJW Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Taking my 64,88 to the nats for the first time. Its 100% pure orignal with 37216 miles. Add another 550 miles cause it will be driven. Oops, not orginal in the process of putting on new water hoses and I did change the wiper blades. Hope this does not me out of the unrestored class. NO PUN intented. Stranger things have happened!!! WJW
Oldsfan Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Those small things won't knock you out of unrestored. Unrestored criteria is bigger stuff like paint and upholstery. There's a list in JWO.Paul
rocketraider Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I haven't heard anyone else from Mid Atlantic say anything about Nationals, though since it's so close and we have worked with Music City on other shows, I expect there'll be a crowd of them going. We will probably leave from the Greensboro area early one morning and go out I40 thru Nashville, though it's possible we'd go up I77 and pick up I64 in West Virginia. I think I64/I65 would actually be shorter for you, beverly933. See if anyone in Eastern Virginia Olds Club or Capitol City Rockets is planning anything.
Brian M. Lenz Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 One thing to remember about this years Nationals - there is only space for 400 judged cars. If you are going to have your car judged, get your form in quickly. I will have my 1977 Cutlass there in Unrestored, like always. With unrestored, general maintenance items dont disqualify you from the class, it is if you have larget things done (more than 2 panels repainted, new carpeting, bumpers rechromed, etc).Brian
dynamic88 Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 where are the nationals at? I see Bowling Green, but is that Bowling Green Ohio or somewhere else. what are the dates for it? thanks chris
rocketraider Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Bowling Green Kentucky. All the info is in your Journey With Olds.
Guest Joe_Varley Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 My wife and I will be going, leaving Phoenix on Sunday, July 15th. We should be driving my '72 Toro. If gas keeps going up, we will drive the '79 Toro. Anybody elase from CA, NM or TX going? We plan to be in Amarillo on Sunday night.Joe Varley AZ
rocketraider Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 No, and it looks like as of yesterday my plans are off. Guess what we're having the week of the National Meet?!There's times I think these people look at my plans for the year and schedule these damn outages accordingly <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />. They, otoh, HAVE their quality of life...And I keep telling myself, 12 more years... though I'll probably have to work till I'm 70.
