Bill Stoneberg Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Most of them are going to be a gateway from your ISP or company. I know for example, my IP is not the one that will be displayed. I hide my IP at home any my IP at work is not routable.

Anyone given any thought to how to attract more posters? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Shop Rat Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Have the forums ever been written about in the AACA magazine? If not then maybe an article would help get more people to come see what is going on and join in the fun. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Peter Gariepy Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 sorry... ip address thingy is now disabled... <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Steve Moskowitz Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Susan, hard for me to resist commenting on this...the answer is YES! However, Obviously you are not reading the magazine! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Your assignment on the next issue is to read it from cover to cover! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />Bob, there are some ideas being worked on. We expect this year to have some modifications to the site which hopefully will get more people involved.
Guest imported_MrEarl Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I for one recall the good words from the Presidents Corner regarding the Forum. I also recall thinking that perhaps there could be a "What's Crankin' Over on the Forum" column dedicated each month to a popular post from the column that might entice folks to check in here more often. Now about the modifications to the site... been hearing that for a couple of years now...so it's really gonna happen???
Guest leadfoot Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 1937hd45 -Sure ain't like it was in the good old days. It used to remind me of the wild west, sort of like Gun Fight at the OK Corral. Then they wanted things toned down and much of what they got was zzzzzzzzzzz. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
R W Burgess Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Leadfoot, what you say may be true, but we have a LOT more women involved and more new members then ever. This site is real popular and friendly, the way it should be.Wayne
TG57Roadmaster Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I think all the forums are a GREAT way to express the many facets of the hobby. It's like shopping around at a swap meet; you wouldn't go to Hershey or the other large shows, stop at one or two vendors, then gripe 'cause you didn't find the widget you're looking for, would you? Shop around, spend some time, share your experience/knowledge/expertise.Of special interest personally are the challenging What Is It's?; Help me ID this car. I don't think we realize how important it is for folks, especially novices, to find out that Granny's sitting in a (fill in the year, make, model) car. At least they want to know, which is more than can be said for most. Is it better for guesstimates or vague reminiscences to replace the truth? It's like when you're watching a great old B&W movie, and the villain's '41 Limited goes over the cliff, bursting into flames. The trouble is, they usually cut to a clapped-out Chevy (or worse, a scale model) to blow up. That kind of thing drives me NUTS, and noticing those little differences is what sets separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls. 99.5% of viewers go, What a cool crash! It's MADDENING, but that's a whole thread in itself!Boring? Never. In need of improvements? Hopefully always.Respectfully, Tom Gibson

I asked a question and you answered. I just somehow missed it. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> I do read a lot more of the magazine since West took it over. The magazine in previous years was very nice, but I just like the new one better.I accept my assignment and will try to do better in the future. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
pakkrat Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I believe IP stands for internet protocol. Basically, the lil' piece of the vast spider web where your computer lives. But that is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Jim Bollman Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I also recall thinking that perhaps there could be a "What's Crankin' Over on the Forum" column dedicated each month to a popular post from the column that might entice folks to check in here more often.</div></div>I run a Crosley Message board for the Crosley Auto Club and I do about 2 pages of excerpts from our board for each issue of our Quarterly. I usually keep it mostly on technical side, but throw in some of the humor when it seems like it would translate to printed form. I quote it directly using the posters alias. I only edit for space, obvious incorrect statements, and some spelling. I consider it useful to not only get others to join in but so those that will never go online to be part of that part of the club.
Guest ZondaC12 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 yeah i was gonna say something. i saw it yesterday and nearly jumped out of my chair <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />"why the heck are people's IPs showing?"your IP address in the hands of a hacker is BAD news. from my knowledge i think it is like a "freebie" to a hacker. with your IP they can do a lot of damage easily.and i saw Peter G's post and was like "yep...i DONT think that was supposed to/intended to be there"funny stuff
novaman Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 I run an article in the Alamance Region's Coil Wire when there is something good on here. Last two was about the car on fire going to the Sentimental Tour and the following month how things turned out with the insurance company. I used it to help stress the importance of carrying fire extingushers with you. I have done some others containing funny things that were post here too.
