(Please) Took my ECM out today with a Service No# 1228786 on a white tag.The one I picked up at the Junk yard, and according to a local buick dealer stated this one with the service No 1228253 fits 88-90 buick Reatta. The one I removed from my 89 Reatta with tag# 1228786 has two blk proms. The 1228253 has a long blue prom?Did someone install the wrong ecm in this car? Should I install the 1228253?Before being a reatta owner need the following: Retired to work on it all day. Debit Card, Savings Account, mechanical skills, Wife that works so she doesn't know how much your spending.Just kidding reall enjoy this vehicle. Jim
Part number 1228253 is for a ECMPart number 1228786 is for a BCMThe ECM is mounted vertically below the glove box and the BCM is mounted horizontally behind the glove box.I am not sure what you paid but if you would have bought from me I would have sold you the correct part <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
padgett
Both look very similar though the removable covers are different (ECM has a long cover held on by two screws, BCM has a square cover with four screws. The Calpak (blue) has a 27C256 PROM and a resistor network for "get home". The BCM has a 27C256 in a black carrier and a 28C16 (smaller) EEPROM also in a black carrier. (Black carriers are a carryover from the earlier "C3" computers).BCM is behind the glovebox, ECM is behind the passenger side kickpanel.
Guest imported_blazer1997
Jim you got me straighten out. In the right ball park just wrong field. Switched it out using my old prom no change.I removed the coil pack to replace it with another on had on hand, and noticed the jelly substance has bunch of bubbles all over it. Just wondering if this would cause the problem having with idle?
padgett
Most are like that. I just replace the Magnavox with a Delco unit at every opportunity.
