Every day brings a new challenge, and again I seek your expertise and experience. The casette door ons on reject, but a tape can not be inserted all the way to allow the door to close. When the ignition is activiated motor sounds can be heard.

1. Is this repairable?

2. How can I turn off the player?

3. How can I remove the entire machine and install something else...a receptacle for glasses, door opener, etc?

Thanks, Happy New Year!

I've got an 89, and need to know how you got the player out, and disconnected, or if it can be repaired, and how and where. Thanks for your reply.

For what it's worth, mine was removed and sent in for repair by my local Buick Dealer. BUUUUTT. Try Rexservice.com for repair, and others will no doubt tell you how to remove it. That is who the Buick dealer used, I believe.

ill post some pix of how to remove it.

The bezel has 4 snap points, I believe. Gently get your fingers under it and pull. Note that you want to grab the plastic and not just the aluminum face. After that, there's 4 screws for the deck itself, then two harnesses.

ok, i use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the shifter nob(not necesary)

and then i use a flat blade srewdriver and slide it in at the points(youll know, or you can CAREFULLY use your fingers and pry it off, but make sure to pull the plastic, not the metal. PC281275.jpg

then i think its a torx 14 or 15 that the screws are. i take off the bottom screws, then push on the player while i remove the top two screws. pull it out and thier you go. unhook the two connectors. that easy. PC281277.jpg

i forgot to mention how the take off the shifter nob

first you find the little metal bracket thing on the back of the nob, facing the casset player. its in the middle of the nob. use the pliers to pull it out toward the cassette player. then you wiggle the nob while pulling upward, and it should come off.

Also, you can block the wheels and put the shifter into 1st

Here are the repair instructions: http://www.geocities.com/reatta_lover/

I used these some years ago to repair my deck. It's still working! Be advised that the repair takes time. If your not into puzzles, then perhaps you should let someone else do the work. The player is built in "layers". You have to remove each at a time. By following the instructions, you can repair your own unit. Just take your time.

I copied the photos to a file and did the repair on my desk where I could refer to them (on the computer) as I went along. It's best if you allow enough time to do it all at one time - if I have to come back tomorrow I'll have forgotten everything I did today.
