Jim Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 I don't know if they are still available new but I have good used ones and can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
88blue90black Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I am new to all these reatta parts. What is this? What years does this go on? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Guest tomt Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 While checking out my problem with the inverter, which Jim and I are talking about, I did check to see if the part is available new, from my Buick dealer. As I remember Jim's comments, there are two inverters, one covering the lights on the dash pods, and one covering the console lights. These inverters change car electrics to low level power for electro-luminescent panels in each of the above. The one I checked for availability is the one for dash pods. It is no longer available. Not sure of the number however. My problem with dash pods is intermittant, which we think rules out the inverter.I'll be at my Buick dealer tomorrow and will get the numbers again.
Jim Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 The inverter in the console changes the 12 volts DC in the car to 110 volts AC to light up the electroluminescent panels in the mirror and window switches and the shift panel and the second one in the dash lights up the electroluminescent panels in the switch pods on either side of the IPC.
Guest mongeonman Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 part number for the one in the console is 1642274 wich is no more available in canada
harry yarnell Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I believe we've determined that the intermittent dash lamps are a function of an intermittent headlight switch.
Guest mongeonman Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 can the inverter be bench tested,if yes,how
harry yarnell Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Good question. This is one of the things I've been wanting to do in my spare time, but havn't. I can't find the schematic in the shop manual (it's GOT to be there0. Seems like the pinout is on the case, but can't remember. Seems simple; apply 12 volts, and check for 110ac with a small load.
Guest mongeonman Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 has anyone checked if it is avalable new from dealer in US.
Guest mongeonman Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 thank you for looking.I bought a 75 watts plug in lighter type inverter at canadian tire, opened it and modified the connections to fit the original connections of the car.It works but i will try to get an original one cause i d ont like to modifi things in my car,i like original stuff.
