Can relays be tested?

Wondering if relays can be tested, other than by substituting a good one?

the best way to know if a relay is good or not is to interchange it with another one that you know already works,most of them are the same.

relays can be tested!

1 remove relay

2 find the coil terminals, look at the drawing on the relay

3 read terminals with ohm meter, if good they will not read open (should be close to zero)

if open then the relay is bad

4 apply the proper voltage (should be 12V) across coil, this will close relay

5 read contact terminals with ohm meter (should be zero, if not the relay is bad)

6 or just replace it and be done with it!

Relays can drive you nuts.

If you think they are bad replace them and make sure the connection are good.

It will make life a lot easier.

Worked like a charm, Ray. Found the bad relay, replaced, and all is right with a very small corner of the world. Saved yet again by the forum.
