Guest roadmaster56 Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 I just replaced the duel exhaust system on my 57 Buick Centruy Caballero wagon. It consists of two mufflers and two resonators. The Buick repair manual shows two additional mini mufflers/resonators right behind the main mufflers, but does not go into detail about them. Do they make a difference in the exhaust note? Quieter? Why were they added?Anyone know where to get these? Most of the vintage suppliers including Kanter's doesn't list them. I've attached a picture of the mini muffler, which is to the right of the main mufflerThanks
Pete Phillips Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 That is called a dual muffler. It is all one unit (large one and small one), and is used on some early 1958 Buicks, and I guess on some of the late 1957s. I had some and sold them on Ebay earlier this year. Will check to see if I have any more, but I don't think I do.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338Sherman, TX
Pete Phillips Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Well, you are in luck, if you want one of these mufflers. They are very rare, and I only have one of them left (see photo). It is still in the Buick box, and is not an after-market part, but an NOS dealer stock part. $125 plus $25 shipping, if you or anyone else wants it.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338314 N.
