So apparantly exhibition of acceleration is a class b misdemeanor. Officer walks up and said it wasn't a ticketable offense, so i was like score... Then he goes on to say its 180 days in jail. So they frisked me, searched my car. Then they didnt believe the car was mine.

And they said that they've heard about me. They're like "David Mars huh? Yeah, we've heard about you and your car, and we've been waiting for you to pass by..."

So luckily they let me off last night. But I think im giving my accelerator pedal and my tires a break for a while. It was awesome though because I got rubber in the first two gears haha.

Comments welcome =)

Something is wrong with this post. "got rubber in the first two gears" is not a statement that would appear in the same sentence with Reatta.

I have nothing against fast cars as I have some roots in drag racing and owned a car that ran in the National (early 60's) We don't normally brag about racing, speed, and the law here. You can post almost anything here but, don't expect responses.

Barney:

Are you forgetting just how slick a Texas blacktop can be ? I recall a 53 Chebby with Blue Flame 6 and powerglide "getting rubber" in San Antone. Here in Florida we have crushed shell roads and the CoF often exceeds 1.0. No possibility of second gear rubber.

Texas is the other state I'm willing to live in. East of the 35" rainfall line that is.

Exhibition of acceleration...were you just peeling out?

I've heard of it before on the Explorer board. It doesn't sound right for it to be a jail-offense.

You don't have any mods, do you?

I am 61 years old and quite often just for fun I go through the gears on my '63 Corvette and can easily spin the tires going into 4th gear. The shifter on my '65 GTO 4 speed isn't as good and I am a little afraid of missing a shift on that one, but it still performs pretty well. I also have a '50 Chev with a big block and a blower and that will spin the tires any time I want.

Were only as old as we feel but with age we become more careful.

I have seen Padgett's GTO and I suspect it doesn't always go 30 or 55. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

69 here and I still feel the urge to 'take up the challenge' every once in a while. If the wife is with me I somehow find the strength to resist the 'urge'.

When by myself though, I have been known to run her up to 125 or so just to 'convince' the other guy not to 'mess with my Buick'. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

10-4 on the "occasional burnout" !!

Whenever the posi-tracks wear out on the driveway, I feel the urge to break out the C4 Vette and re-write history, all over the blacktop! Over the hill, 'round the bend(s), and accross the patio. If the entrance/egress is looking pale, I'll re-mark my territory, on the way out of the drive, then back in on my return. Pulling back into the garage in a blaze of smokey blue glory.

Panikmekanik HATES it!

But, at least I'm not "Blackening" the whole street, with nests of black snakes for a tenth either way, as some of the neighbors do! (They have sponsors.)

I once knew a fellow that was fined for reckless driving because he was burning rubber. It was a pretty serious offense. It wasn't just a short squeal. Lots of smoke involved.

I never heard before that there is a law against fast acceleration. I generally get my jollies by accelerating very rapidly without burning rubber, right up to the speed limit on an open road. That way I can have my fun without breaking my car or worrying about getting a ticket. Call it an old mans' thrill.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Guess I must be getting old. I'm more concerned now with how long I can make it last than with how fast I can make it go.

But every once in a while..... <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> </div></div>

It might just be maturity. I'm 28, and don't get me wrong, I like fast cars, but it's NEVER good to "peel out" in any car. That puts a LOT of unnecessary stress on your car in all the wrong places. And what exactly is it doing for you? It's not making you go any faster. I mean, when you go to a drag race at your local strip... do you see people burning rubber all the way down the track? If they do, they're usually not getting very good times.

I'm all for planting the gas pedal, but I prefer to ease into the gas right off the line, and then nail it. Now... I've been known to break my tires loose in the shift from 1st to 2nd, but... the only thing a nice huge burn out is for, is getting other people's attention. And most of the time, they don't really care what it is that you're doing, who you are, or why you're doing it. They just know that you're making a lot of noise, and it's annoying.

But... I HAVE been known on VERY rare occasion, to just hammer that gas right off the line.

I find it fun to do as MANY modifications as I possibly can, air intake, port matching, exhuast, headers, etc etc... and then try to see how much I can improve my fuel economy... haahah!! There's really some messed up connection in my head... because the two just don't really justify eachother, but I guess they go hand in hand???
