Amphicar BUYER Posted December 21, 2006 Share Posted December 21, 2006 It's o-fish-al, we are now in a blizzard (visability of <1/4 mile and sustained winds of 35MPH+) with up tp 36" expected tonight (only 23F and a windchill of -10F). At 8AM I went 10 miles into town for groceries and the roads are almost impassable. Good thing I have a 4WD. I have a 4'+ drift in my driveway and another acrosss my ramp which looks to be about 5'+. Even my Siberian Husky (Sasha) who loves the snow wanted to come inside!At about 1PM, MST (started snowing hard about 8AM) At about 4PM, MST At about 8PM, MST At about 9AM, MST 11AM today... Bhigdog Posted December 21, 2006 Share Posted December 21, 2006 I have a friend committed to a skiing trip to Austria over the X-mas holiday and I understand they have little snow and very little in the way of snow making equiptment. When I want the effect of snow I pay a guy to pour Ivory snow past my front window while I sit in my chair and bask in 50' + temps. My brain unfroze back in New York years ago and I woke up in the south and here I stay. I only go back to New Yorkduring the only season they have other than winter and that's the 4th of July. This is a normal thing here every 3 or so years so we are used to it. I fill the vehicles up, get groceries, batteries and blankets. With good prep it's not a problem. The cleanup is where the work is. w/o my 4x4, I would be stuck, so I'll go play and help other get unstuck. THe only bad part was my girlfriend was stuck at her house and not here!Santa has to have someplae to land! Shoot, we just let about 10lbs of air out of those old Ford skinnies, made for fantastic traction! Amphicar BUYER Posted December 23, 2006 Author Share Posted December 23, 2006 I spent a lot of today driving through 23" of snow in the alley to create a path for the folks here w/o 4wd to be able to get out. Helped pull a few out of the snow as well. I saw a few 4x4s with the tow rope already attached to the hitch like I did. Back up to the stranded car and they know what to do. Makes quick work of it.Most main streets are clear and dry. The side streets can require a 4 wheel drive. I sure love busting through them big drifts! Now I remember why I left the "Great White North"! It's been several years since I've seen snow in person. (we did have a light frost about 3-4 years ago) I don't miss the cold! Great snow pics! I used to like working in my shop when the snow buried us, fire up the stove and tinker away, it always seemed to be much quieter with 3-4 ft of snow insulating everything. Amphicar BUYER Posted January 5, 2007 Author Share Posted January 5, 2007 I am in the middle of our 3rd storm in 3 weeks! 2 Blizzards and now only 10" more. So far I have had about 36" since Christmas week. West of Denver in Evergreen, they have had 81" since then. The 1st storm gave us more snow than all of last year. Now we will have to truck it to the mountains (where they have not gotten as much) so we have water next year. The front of my house after the 1st storm...
