Amphicar BUYER Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 It's o-fish-al, we are now in a blizzard (visability of <1/4 mile and sustained winds of 35MPH+) with up tp 36" expected tonight (only 23F and a windchill of -10F). At 8AM I went 10 miles into town for groceries and the roads are almost impassable. Good thing I have a 4WD. I have a 4'+ drift in my driveway and another acrosss my ramp which looks to be about 5'+. Even my Siberian Husky (Sasha) who loves the snow wanted to come inside! At about 1PM, MST (started snowing hard about 8AM) At about 4PM, MST At about 8PM, MST At about 9AM, MST 11AM today... My front porch... More photos... Here is a link to more.http://picasaweb.google.com/AmphicarPrez/ColoradoBlizzadOf2006
R W Burgess Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Merry Christmas John. Feel fortunate. They're talking normal warm weather(for this time of year) or rain on Christmas day. What kind of Christmas is that? Wish I was out there chunking snowballs at you John! Wayne
West Peterson Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 You'd miss him, Wayne. I'm sure of it.
Shop Rat Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 West, that was cold. Or it will be when it hits him.
Bhigdog Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Yo, WAY kewl. It's gonna be a damp warmish X-mas here. It looks like the local ski areas are gonna take it on the chin this season.....Bob
West Peterson Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Eeew! I don't want to hear that! I've got a trip planned to Seven Springs.
Andersson Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Lucky you! Here in sweden we have one of the hottest(?) vinter since beginnig of -70 no snow and +6 celsius!Santa have to mount wheels behind reindeer.Merry crismas..........
R Walling Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 John, you are lucky. You can just engage the propellers on your Amphicar and back out of your garage and blow all the snow out of the way!
Bhigdog Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 I have a friend committed to a skiing trip to Austria over the X-mas holiday and I understand they have little snow and very little in the way of snow making equiptment. Couple that with the Euro trading at about a 30% premium to the dollar and it's going to be a very expensive non skiing vacation. ...Bob.
R W Burgess Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 John, Thanks for bringing a little Christmas spirit to the forum!West! I owe you one! Wayne
Amphicar BUYER Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 I added some more photos this AM.Once I get dug out, I may try the Amphi for a snow blower. They are very good in the snow with a flat bottom, high clearance (11") and all the weight over the rear wheels.Merry Christmas all!!!
Twitch Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Yeah doesn't the Amphicar have that snowmobile function where it uses the props to skim across the snow?

Ron Green Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 I've been following your pictures as your blizzard progressed, thanks for posting. You sure started the clean up rather quickly. Now tell the truth, you want to make sure Santa can get to your house right? Have a Merry!!!!
Guest AlK Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 You can have every flake and flurry of it. When I want the effect of snow I pay a guy to pour Ivory snow past my front window while I sit in my chair and bask in 50' + temps. My brain unfroze back in New York years ago and I woke up in the south and here I stay. I only go back to New Yorkduring the only season they have other than winter and that's the 4th of July.
Guest leadsled1953 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 you definitely got the white Christmas thing going.here its mild and no snow for the weekend[so far]i tell everyone that as a kid growing up in the mountains of Va we got a lot of snow[and now i'm farther north and its no snow .but get your self shoveled out.you and your family have a Merry Christmas.
Clipper47 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Northwestern Ontario-180 miles north of Duluth MN. No snow and pouring rain! The old snowblower isn't getting much of a workout yet.

This is a normal thing here every 3 or so years so we are used to it. I fill the vehicles up, get groceries, batteries and blankets. With good prep it's not a problem. The cleanup is where the work is. w/o my 4x4, I would be stuck, so I'll go play and help other get unstuck. THe only bad part was my girlfriend was stuck at her house and not here!Santa has to have someplae to land! How else will he ever bring me that NOS tranny and list of all lost Amphicars asked for? Thanks to all who sent in good words! Merry Christma, Happy Chanukah to everyone!
Aanderson44 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Back in '63, while in college in a small Iowa town, one of my buddies and I figured out how to make our Model A Fords work like Jeeps in the snow! Shoot, we just let about 10lbs of air out of those old Ford skinnies, made for fantastic traction! Why, we spent an entire Saturday night that December, a week before we all got on the train to come home for Christmas, busting snow drifts all over Fairfield IA with our A's--great fun!Art Anderson
Amphicar BUYER Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 I spent a lot of today driving through 23" of snow in the alley to create a path for the folks here w/o 4wd to be able to get out. Helped pull a few out of the snow as well. I saw a few 4x4s with the tow rope already attached to the hitch like I did. Back up to the stranded car and they know what to do. Makes quick work of it.Most main streets are clear and dry. The side streets can require a 4 wheel drive. I sure love busting through them big drifts!
Tom M Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Bet your dog loves that weather. In your Picture 11AM today...Hope all is well now...

Guest Albert Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 we are having a problem up here in Ontario canada , we cant eve use the snow making machines on the slopes, has not been cold enought, it's suppose to go to 10 deg C here today, yesterday i was outside working on a motorcycle most of the day..
Mike Cullen Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 My wife and I went for a ride on the bike last night. It was about 80, didn't even need long sleeves. Now I remember why I left the "Great White North"! It's been several years since I've seen snow in person. (we did have a light frost about 3-4 years ago) I don't miss the cold! Great snow pics! I used to like working in my shop when the snow buried us, fire up the stove and tinker away, it always seemed to be much quieter with 3-4 ft of snow insulating everything.
Amphicar BUYER Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 I am in the middle of our 3rd storm in 3 weeks! 2 Blizzards and now only 10" more. So far I have had about 36" since Christmas week. West of Denver in Evergreen, they have had 81" since then. The 1st storm gave us more snow than all of last year. Now we will have to truck it to the mountains (where they have not gotten as much) so we have water next year. The front of my house after the 1st storm...
R W Burgess Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Won't be using those farm implements anytime soon, John! Wayne
