yirgaman Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 I've checked a couple of catalogs also and none of them have thisconfiguration. I found the number for Boston Gear, but couldn't find the time to call today. It'll have to wait until next week nowbefore I can contact them. Thanks for your help guys! i'll let youknow what I find out.Larry
W_Higgins Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 That's a difficult thing to do over the phone, and if I recall, Boston Gear won't sell to you directly. Easiest solution is to find a bearing supply house and take it in with you.
D Binger Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Give REMPCO a callThey made a rear axelshaft for my 14 Buick and I am sure they can do this for you. The work they did for me was great and If I need that kind of services again, they will be the first ones I call.REMPCO251 Bell AvewnueP.O. Stan Kulikowski Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Send me an email at iceman5@ptd.net or stan.kulikowski@fennerprecision.com if you don't have any luck. I have been in contact with some gear hobbers as I am researching business opportunities for our pulley business. If you can't get what you want from Rempco, I may be able to direct you to a source that could custom cut the gear for you.Stan
yirgaman Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 Having no luck so far, I took my spur gear to a local machine shop. From what they could determine - it's a unique size and cut. They are going to build the teeth up by TIG welding and hand file it back tothe correct shape and size. Since the teeth in the stamped out regulatorshow some lopsided wear, they're going to take it off and turn it aroundto give a better fit (like rotating a tire to take advantage of the goodtooth surface). They aren't gong to stop the presses to do this job, so I won't know for a while how it turns out. Thanks for all the suggestions.....if this doesn't work, I'll have to takethe gear off the other front door and go looking for a mate.Larry
yirgaman Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 The machine shop finished my spur gear today....it looks good and most important IT WORKS!. They built the teeth back up with weld and hand filed it to the right size. It took a couple of monthss to getaround to it - but they are busy. It cost $45.00 to get it done. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.Larry
