Matt Harwood 12,770 Posted December 21, 2006 Share Posted December 21, 2006 I'm not sure what kind of fluid specifically (probably 90 weight gear oil for the transmission), but here's a tip for reinstalling your torque ball. Polish the "ball" surface to a mirror shine before you reinstall it (and I mean really polish it). This will help it seal up properly and protect the new seal for a long, long time. A lot of guys don't bother to clean these up which is perhaps why they are so notorious for leaking.Hope this helps! Link to post Share on other sites

I read the manual again and it said that the seal was impregnated with a lubricant that was long lasting and required no further attention. The stuff that I scooped out looked a lot like pinion dope.
