michaelmis Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I bought this item recently. I have never seen one before and would like to know if any members have seen one, or similar, before.Up to now I felt that my car had enough crome and have resisted adding fins on the rear, and the bumper things on the side.Previously I have bought both of the above. However I did not like the look of them when I tried them on the car.My car is in the shop at the moment but I can not wait to see what this baby looks like on the car.
Guest n1gzd Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I don't understand. It looks like the regular front bumper gard to me. What am I missing.Rebecca
michaelmis Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 Hi Rebecca. True it is a regular tooth but with a round top. I have attached a photo of how I would expect it to look.
Guest my3buicks Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I sold a couple NOS ones years back, you see them on 50's with some regularity.
michaelmis Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Oh No. I had hoped this was rare.I have owned a 50 for eight odd years, which means I have been looking at 1950 stuff closely during that time. I have never seen one, let alone two. What are your thoughts on the look of it when it is on the car?
Guest my3buicks Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Personally, If I had one, I would forgo using it, it breaks up the look that makes the 50 famous - but then again it's all what the owner likes, lots of people don't like the spotlight on the front fender of my 67, - it's all what you like and want ! ! !
Guest Straight eight Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Helms Grill Guard of Grand Rapids made these starting in 1946. They were not a Genuine Buick part to the best of my knowledge.
B.Goode Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 We got a 1950 Special here in Denmark that has one of those, here is what it looks like : I bet you if you park your 1950 Buick in a line up of 1950 Buicks, yours would be the one that'll get all the stares
Guest n1gzd Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Hm. I get it. I don't think that I like it. Looks funny. Like it has a third eye or something.Rebecca
michaelmis Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Jonny, Thank you for the photo. Do you mind if I add it to my website, along with a link to your club?Michael
michaelmis Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Rebecca,True it has that third eye look. I was trying not to think about that too much :-)If it is easy enough to take on and off, it might be a special occasion thing.Michael
Bhigdog Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Put it away it's making me nauseus. ........Bob.

The owners name is Klaus Horsboel.Could you provide me with a link to your website, and I will gladly display in my linkssection?
michaelmis Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 Johnny. Cheers My web is www.buicknet.comI am on holiday at the moment but would love to add your photo and link to your car when I return home.Looks like this "Third Eye" is getting a reaction..... Not all good, But a reaction.Michael M Perth Australia
Guest Straight eight Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Looks like originally there were THREE in the set.
michaelmis Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 Three? I am sorry I don't understand/may have missed something here.Have you seen a set of three before? Thanks Michael M
Mike Cullen Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 That is really sick, in a good way...... Sort of like the plastic nose-moustache-glasses thing. But a set of three??? wait a minute, that's a little out of hand! The three in that ad are the two original outers with the aftermarket center tooth.
Guest Straight eight Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Don't think those outers are the standard pieces.. Sure looks like an accessory
TG57Roadmaster Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 If it had some holes in it, I'd say it was one of those deer whistle alarms to alert the hapless critters of their impending demise. They'd still probably just stand there in the middle of the road, like Bambi frozen in the brights. As to three of 'em??? Even Dagmar was well-equipped with just two, the way the Good Lord intended!Tom Gibson

You could get a pair of those " Roo Shoo " whistles they flog here, hide them behind these ? big chrome things and we will all feel safe following you on the Cervanties run in April with the knowledge that you will be scaring off all the marauding killer Kangaroos.
Guest norb Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I have been working on Buick,s since before you guys were born but I have never seen one before. Norb
TG57Roadmaster Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 So YOU were the one who showed David Buick how to put porcelain on cast iron bathtubs. One of life's great mysteries solved. Betcha never saw a prettier '50 Buick grille than this one, either.Tom Gibson
michaelmis Posted January 6, 2007 Author Posted January 6, 2007 Stuart, So funny that you should see this. I have not forgotten your comment the last time I saw you. "Dont add anymore chrome"I have not seen this on a car yet. However the more I look at it/read the comments here I think it is a bit of a shocker. As far as protection goes: possibly things would run away in disgust?
Robberbach Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Seen one at the Centenial in Flint. Odd looking, but functional I guess. I've never seen one to buy though.
