1937hd45 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Any idea what car used this crest logo? Hubcap is 8 1/4 diameter looks to be a wood wheel hub cap to me.
TheMoneyPit Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 That is an Oldsmobille emblem, but I don't know what year used that hubcap.
drwatson Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Here's the same emblem on the radiator of a 1932 Oldsmobile.
1937hd45 Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 THANKS! Now we need some OLDS guy to decode the hieroglphics. The winged spur and three acorns, micrometer, lamp, and square must be there for a reason.
Guest De Soto Frank Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Must be some sort of "secret-society code"... maybe Dan Brown has the answer... Was this emblem a "true" family coat of arms for the Olds clan ? ( Or something glommed onto by the GM marketing people ?)
drwatson Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 You got me going on the "hieroglphics". http://www.oldsmobile.com/olds/enthusiasts/default9f56.htmlQuote:(Used from 1929 - 1948) "The Winged Spur emblem included many elements symbolizing Oldsmobile's increasing prominence in the automobile industry. The winged spur at its center represented harnessing horsepower; the acorns acknowledged Oldsmobile as a seed that helped grow the automobile industry. Also included is the Lamp of Knowledge, a micrometer and triangle signifying research, exactness and precision. This crest would be modified and used on various models and hub caps through 1948."
1937hd45 Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Thanks Doc! At first glance I came up with someone being nuts for buying an Olds and kicking themselves ever since.
