Guest DickTrierweiler
Hi, I have a 67 REO Trend truck that leaks oil out of the front end of the transmission,(NP435). This transmission lies on its left side in the chassis. I use the original drain hole to fill and to that level. Am I overfilling the transmission by doing this and is that why the oil is coming out the front of the transmission? The main drive gear does not have a regular seal, but spiraling grooves to drive the oil back to the transmission. Any advice will be welcomed. Guest
Is it possible that the drain hole that allows the oil to go back into the case after the sprials have pushed it back is plugged? The usual way of telling if a transmission is full is to insert your bent little finger. If you can touch the oil level you have enough. If it is filled to the plug level perhaps it is over full.
