padgett
Are you sure that is the ECM, the electronics module in the trunk is for the ABS.
Guest
Mike, I think you want the
compass module. If the wires
and connectors are there then
just plug in the module.
Then go to service mode and
program the compass into the
computer. Guest Stan Leslie
I think most people will assume that ECM stands for Engine Control Module instead of Electronic Compass Module (which the Reatta didn't have)
sahein
Some Rivieras did have the compass module. It shouldn't be to difficult to install one into a Reatta. Does anybody know where I can find one?
Guest
I am just going by what is written in the service manual and it describes the Electronic Compass Module. I have brought up the screens and it is not listed but described in the manual????
Guest
I got mine from the dealer.
Just say it's for a Riv.
I had to hard wire mine into
the harness under the dash.
on the Reattas the plug in
connector is not there. Don B.
Mike try looking in the override
section. And there is a section on
options which list the codes for
different option combos. In that
section it also tell how to made
changes permanent.
Barney Eaton
You owners that are experimenting with these things need to document what you needed to do to change something or install something and send it to Stan Leslie or myself.
There is a strong possibility that the Reatta Division web page will have the ability to list these changes/fixes and show pictures and schematics. Be the first on your block to get your name in lights when that happens.
Rawja
I am very interested in installing a compass module into my '89, please provide details.
Barney Eaton
According to the parts book the compass module part number is 1647056.
www.gmpartsdirect.com show it at $222.36 retail, $133.42 their price...plus s&h.
I don't know what else you need...would be best to find a Riviera with one and get the module and wiring harness. Richard S
I'm fascinated. But what the hell does it do?
Richard S
Looking at my prior post, it sounds kind of sarcastic and I didn't mean it that way. I am literally fascinated by the device, but aside from assuming it tells you which direction you're aimed, what does it do?
sahein
TurboRoadHawk, How much did you pay for it? Do you know the part number?
Rawja
It's a compass, so it errr.. tells you what direction you are facing. The reason that I must have it is that it gives you an additional screen with a cheesey graphic of a car at an intersection with the direction you are heading written across the sky, and the directions to your left and right displayed on little road signs. I've been wanting to add one on since I got my Reatta, but was unaware that the compass module was still available. As soon as Turbo tells us how he tied his in, I'm ordering one. sahein
I just reprogrammed the computer to show the compass display in the options menu.

1.)Get into diagnostic mode by pushing the climate control warm and off buttons simultainously.
2.)Select BCM then BCM override.

3.)Select BS07.
4.)Remember this displayed number so you can return the BCM programming to normal.
5.)Push override up arrow until code 252 is displayed.
6.)To permantly store the new option code: Press and simultaniously hold for more than 3 seconds the GAUGES and OPTIONS buttons surrounding the display.
7.)Turn the key off and then back on.
8.)Select the OPTIONS button surrounding the display.
9.)Compass should appear in the menu. All of the old options are still there but located under a different level.
10.)Smile
Rawja
Thanks Sahein, but I meant how does it tie in to the electrical system, I am comfortable with providing power to the unit, but I am unclear on how and where the "communication line" connection would be made. sahein
I have not done this, so procede at your own risk. I will not take any responsibility for accuracy or for problems arising from this information.
Compass Module:
Pin#
1 Data Line
2 Data Line
3 Central Power Supply pin# D16 +7 Volt
4 Central Power Supply pin# D7 7 Volt Ground
Probably the easiest place to find the Data Line is at the ALDL connector pins M and L. The pins go to tan colored wires. Pins M and L are shorted together by a metal pin in the ALDL connector cover. The data line is daisey chained. Removing the cover will break the chain. The line can be broken almost anywhere to insert the compass module. Minimum distances may be required from other devices on the chain. May not work correctly if installed to close on the chain to another device.
