49superconv Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Hi - I have a 1949 Buick 56C that I considering repainting. The current color is Cumulus Gray (4908 on the trim tag). I have paint chip samples in good shape, but was wondering if anyone out there has the actual tinting mixes so that the new paint is close to the original? Thanks! Jim.
pirate Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Jim.... I did well with PPG paints with getting the right color for my 47 Buick. The Jobber that mixes and sells the paint contacted PPG's library and got the mixing codes. I bought a pint at first and made sure I was happy before buying enough to paint the whole car. I believe ppg.com will get you a list of the paint jobbers in your area. PPG makes excellent quality paint but if you are doing a base, clear system use the "2002" clear for a deep and hard shine.
Guest COMPACTBC Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Cumulus Gray (Buick code #4908)is PPG paint code #30503 <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
49superconv Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Excellent suggestion! I'll plan on using that combination and contact PPG. Thanks very much.
49superconv Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Thank you as well, Bruce. Looks like that should be what they need to mix a new batch.I'll post some pictures when it is done... Jim
