Guest
I need help. My dad left me this car fully restored. Dark blue, spoke wood wheels, white cloth top. White wall tires and a rumble seat. I am not even sure it is a 1929 model. He did tell me before he died that there were only 2 of this particular model fully restored in the entire south. Let me know if anyone can help. It is fully restored and was running well, he drove it weekly before he died in April 1994.
Thanks
Janet ..

Guest
I have the original owners manual. The car is a 1929 Plymouth Deluxe Business Coupe.
I was wondering what value I should place on it for sale. It meant so much to Daddy but none of us have the time or know how to love it and drive it and keep it in mint condition like Daddy did. He retired at 62 so he could restore old cars...He had 12 good years before getting cancer. He loved this old car and although was a Ford man at heart the last two restorations were this Plymouth and a 1929 Chevy Vegatable Van. He did not get to finish the Chevy. Was wondering if the market would be better on line to sell or try to sell here or what.
Thanks for any help
Janet
ply33
My condolences to you for the loss of your father. There is nothing that can make up for that.
In regards to your car, I don't have any photos of a 1929 rumble seat roadster, but I have some of a couple of 1928 Rumble Seat Roadsters. The front sheet metal was common between body styles, so you could look at other pictures for 1929 and 1930 to compare the looks.
The serial number for the car is on the passenger side door post. In 1928 and 1929 they used an odd alphabet soup of letters and numbers for the serial number. In 1930 they started using a simple numerical numbering sequence. If you get me the serial number I see what year it is. Or you can check on the same web site the photographs are for the serial numbers and determine it yourself.
You may also be interested in the Plymouth Owners Club. Guest
Thank You very much for the photos. I am going to get out in the afternoon son uncover it tomorrow afternoon and get some digital photos of it. The prices on the pictures you sent me are around $675. That was the price new I guess? I know that Dad paid alot more than that when he got it to restore. I will email you the picture and see what you think. Thanks for your help
Janet
Guest
Janet - the value of any antique car depends on many variables (see the first hotlink below) the most important of which is how much someone is willing to pay on the day you are ready to sell. Would suggest that you also contact the AACA local region where the car is located for help. You may also want to get a professional appraisal before doing any selling. I'm not sure that E-bay is the best place to sell a restored pre-war car.
Just to give you an idea of variables the 1996 Old Cars Price Guide lists a condition #1 @$11,500, #2 @$8,100, #3 @$4,600. And you'd be surprised how few #1 cars there really are.
http://www.geocities.com/~johnnielacy/worth.html
http://www.hemmings.com/hemmings/motormall/priceguides.cfm
http://www.netstoreusa.com/tnbooks/188/1880524414.shtml
