Guest roadtrip Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 There are 2 cars being loaded on the ship in the begining of the movie. Are they Franklins? If not what are they? I think they got weird in the red one later in the movie!
Guest BruceW Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Don't know enough to know if it is correct.... but the Movie Car Database (http://www.imcdb.org) identifies the red car as a Renault.
Guest brockway Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Here's a link to the Titanic movie in IMCDb: http://www.imcdb.org/movie_120338-Titanic.htmlThe red car is indeed a 1912 Renault 35hp; same type of car which sank with the ship. In the movie there's also a second Renault and a 1912 Rambler Four.
Terry Bond Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 There was an article about the Renault cars used in the movie in the Horseless Carriage Gazette some time ago. It was interesting to learn that the movie set in Mexico was only constructed on the starboard side; the port side was all metal work and open scaffolding. In order to film the departure scene from Southampton which, in real life, was appropriately done from the port side, James Cameron filmed the starboard side and then "flopped" the film in the lab. This meant that all the signage and lettering seen in this sequence would have to be lettered backwards. It also required some simple modifications to the vehicles. Terry
