Gentleman,

As this is my first post, I should start by introducing myself. I am a constructor, based in the south of Spain, in a small town called Nerja, just 35 miles east of Malaga. For my sins, I am the President of a new Classic Car Club and one of my unpaid jobs (I would not want to be paid!) is to help new club members or answer questions ref cars. All I know about this one is that it ts a Durant Rugby circa 1926, from Argentina and chassis number is 353422 which is either incomplete or wrong. Can anyone help in identifying the model?? Here are some photos.

Many thanks in advance and I am sure I can get the new owner to join the forum or ask in his name.

Mauricio:

That is a very nice looking car. It does not look like a Rugby body but maybe a one off model. The radiator and radiator shell do look like a Rugby but not the body. Does it have a contential engine and is it a 6 or 4. The Rugby was a rebadged Star and I am not familar with that body being on the Star. Go to the Durant website and look at the section under photographs and you can get some idea as to the body style. http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/durant/ Feel free to post a question on the Durant Web site and I am sure they answer your question and I will check the serial numbers with the information I have. Have a nice day.

Mauricio,

The Serial Number range for the 1926 Star Model M (Continental Special 4 engine) goes from 350000-379999. Your number 353422 falls within that range. Also, the car has all the design hallmarks of a Star; radiator shape, hood louvers, fender and headlight shape.

This car must be one of the re-badged Stars mentioned above.

The Durant company made various models such as the Durant, and the smaller Star.

They used the Rugby name for their truck line. Up until now all the Rugby vehicles I have heard of were trucks or buses.

Possibly they used the Rugby name on export models of the Star. Some companies did things like that in the past.

The reason is, that there might have been another Star car already on the market in that country. I know there was a Star car made in England.
