rybikowsk Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I could use some recomendations on which of the wire wheel brands are the best .thanks mike
Guest imported_Speedster Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I don't think wire wheels were an option in '49, (at least I've never seen one with wires)?(I'm assuming that you're thinking about putting them on the '49 and want to keep it stock?)
Guest imported_Speedster Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm thinking '36 was the last year for wire-wheels? Anyone know if that is correct?
Guest imported_Packards1 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 My 1956 Convertible has factory wire wheels.
Guest imported_Speedster Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I knew someone would say that. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> I'm Not talking about those New-Fangled Modern cars! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> (before '53) I started to make that stipulation in previous post, but wanted to see if you guys were awake. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
rybikowsk Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 I am not to concerned if the 49 had wire wheels as an option I like the way they look, I dont plan on doing anything to this car that I cannott undo. since my last packard before this was bought in the late fiftys early sixtys, I did not realize the attitude for purity.thanks. mike
Guest imported_Speedster Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 There's not many types available. The ones like are sold at Coker-tires is the most common type available. I've seen the same style sold other places also, including eBay. They are expensive everywhere tho. Both 15" and 16" sizes available. They have the Packard name on the caps similar to originals but don't use original caps. Here's a link to the Coker website (Packard wheels page):http://www.coker.com/store/customer/home.php?cat=369 See attachment for picture:
Packard8 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Welcome to the forum! These are pretty close to the original wires offered as an option on the 53-56 Caribs.http://catalogs.shoplocal.com/kanter/ind...circularid=9421Post some pix of your car if you have a chance.Best,John
Guest imported_Speedster Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Kanter charges a lot more for the same wheels that Coker has. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
Guest imported_Speedster Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 So, No one knows if Wire-wheels were a factory Option between '36 and '52 ???
West Peterson Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 They were not an option after 1936... but of course, what the customer wanted, sometimes the customer got.
