Bob Giles Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Was given information today that the Host hotel is already sold out, for the Spring National. I didn't even receive my request for information yet. Bob Giles
MCHinson Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Bob, after reading your post, I went to the Sheraton website and had no trouble reserving a room for those dates. (Wasn't quite as inexpensive as I hoped, but I have a reservation.)I don't know the source of your information, but you might try the Sheraton Website.
Peter J.Heizmann Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Hi, Bob...I agree to go to the Sheraton web site.In the past, I had no less than 4 occasions where the clerk will check the dates you request, see that the hotel is booked, or, partially booked by an AACA Region/Chapter. The clerk then says sorry we are booked. Problem with phoning, is, you are at the mercy of an uninformed clerk. For example, the Hagerstown Meet some years ago. I phoned about 3 times and was told they are booked. On a business trip, I stopped at the Clarion for a face-to-face attempt to make a reservation. Even then, the clerk said sorry we are booked. It took 10 minutes for me to get the point across that "AACA and the Region/Chapter Name", are one in the same for a reservation. The manager got involved and said "wow, we were telling people for 3 weeks we were booked and all those people went to surrounding hotels".Make sure to mention "AACA and the Region/Chapter name".Peter J...

You're fired!" The dumbing down of this country is unbelievable. Wayne
Dynaflash8 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 This is why I was one who never favored letting the hotel information be published before the official mail-out forms were sent. People without the internet have no chance, and people who want to make their plans closer to the event do not either. On the other hand, other people will block 19 rooms for them and their friend "in case" they want to come and then cancel them a week before the event if they don't need all or any of them. I've never liked to decide in January where I'm going to go in September, but I guess that's just me.

Usually I have success obtaining a room in the same hotel by asking if there are any non blocked rooms left and typically there are. Cost is a couple of dollars more then the special AACA room rate but at least you get a room.
Bhigdog Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 There are so many discounts for so many affiliations that you can sometimes get a room for even less than the "show" rate. Talk to reservations and be polite but persistant.......Bob.
Ron Green Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 One for sure being AAA. The triple A got me a room at two AACA national events in the host hotel after being told no rooms were left. And you are correct the rates were pretty good.
Bob Giles Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 My information was wrong. The "sold-out" was a B&B that is in New Bern. I was told by a local person that the Host hotel is not the first choice for lodging. Sorry if I caused anybody any concern. Bob
Peter J.Heizmann Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Hi, Ted...Spring National Meet, Southeastern Division.May 10-12, 2007New Bern, NCHosted by:North Carolina Region's "First Capital Chapter".I attended the 2002 Annual Grand National in New Bern. Without doubt, one of the most interesting meets I ever attended. Cars were placed within the very historic streets of New Bern. Scenery is beautiful along the Neuse River.(Within the header at the top of the forum, click on "Community, then, Local Clubs". Scroll down to the North Carolina Region. Click on First Capital Chapter. You will see "2002 show photos".)Regards,Peter J...
MCHinson Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Bob, I have to ask, was that perhaps the Kings Arms Inn? We happened to stay at the Kings Arms Inn in New Bern a little over 20 years ago. I never did figure out why we left Our Historic Coastal NC City to go to Another Historic Coastal NC City for our Honeymoon, but it was a nice place to stay. There are lots of potential places to stay in New Bern. http://www.homesinnewbern.com/all_about_newbern/accommodations/index.htm
