Guest littlegto64 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Hello:Looks like I am about to become the next owner of a 1926 Cadillac Touring. I am posting a picture of it. At some point in its life, it was converted to a tow truck. To do so, as you can see, everything behind the door posts was removed. A previous owner had located the back end of a 1926 7 passenger sedan which comes with the car. I think it's close to the Touring shape, but not exact it can probably be made to work with some fabrication. The other issue is that I will need rear doors. Does anyone know of a pair, or of anyone who can fabricate a pair. Thanks,Chuck Kendall
Ivan Saxton Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 It is a bit hard to tell from your photo, but the radiator looks more like 314B or C. You would have to go by serial # lists, but my first car was a 1927 314B # 140982. Mine was a 4 passenger Phaeton. You are correct that yours is a touring, possibly 5 rather than 7 Passenger, as proportions look a bit like 132" wheelbase. The axle ratio will be stamped on the top of the diff. Most were 5 to 1, Which is far too slow unless you live in the Rockies. Mine had the "high" ratio 4 1/2 to 1, And I reckoned that was not really fast enough, because it would easily start on the level in top gear. First was mostly for "climbing ladders". 314 B &C had an extraordinary instrument cluster surround of a pressing with a raised design of "German silver", inlaid with fiddleback veneer. I never had one of these that was in good condition, because most had deteriorated in the sun. The headlights do not appear to be standard 314 Cadillac, though it is hard t6o tell except from a straight front view. Some custom bodied cars could have had non standard headlights. Standard bodies were Fisher, higher end were Fleetwood, but for these there should be a pressed plate with the data on the engine side of the firewall. According to Hugo Pfau, LeBaron and others made specials to client order mostly. Sometimes the clue on these if there is no other (certainly for LeBaron of this era) is an F R Atkinson ticket inside the bottom of the seat spring bases, citing the name of the customer. All the best with it. Guest littlegto64 Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 My headlights are quite nice. But, what else do you have? Do you have any pictures or measurements of the underlying wood? I have to create the back half of the car. I have a tub from a 7 passenger, but need to have accurate measurements to locate it properly. thanksChuck
