FireballV8 Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 What is the best way to identify a 1937 & 1940 Packards? How does one find out the model, series, etc? Where are the tags for vin and colors, etc? Thanks
West Peterson Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 The "vin" on the 1940 is held in place with regular straight-slot screws and is located on the top of the firewall on the driver's side (under the hood). The "vin" on the 1937 I believe is on the face of the firewall on the passenger side. Both of these "vin"plates are about 4 inches square. There are no codes for original colors.
FireballV8 Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 Can the vin be used to know what series the car is? 1500, 1501, etc??
Joe Block Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Yes, it should be on there as well as the engine number sequence.
FireballV8 Posted November 17, 2006 Author Posted November 17, 2006 So what numbers should I look for? thx
Guest JT Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 There are a lot of number choices depending on engine, jr/sr car, etc. It might be easier for you to go to the packard club site http://www.packardclub.org/ and check out encyclopedia under the reference section.
