reloader1956 Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 The HVAC fan in my 1990 coupe will not shut off. I understand from a previous thread that the problem is common and the fan module is shorted and needs to be replaced. Is this module accessible, or is it under the dash and part of the heater assembly? Checking the parts list I think the part number we are talking about is 12484912 and is item number 39 in the attached. Can someone verify this for me please or point me to the thread on this forum that discusses this topic? Thanks for your help. Joe
manikmekanik Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Hi, Reloader!Part #39, (a temp sensor, I believe), is easily accessible from under the hood, mounted on the top of the fan box, at the firewall. Just unplug it, then remove the 2 screws! If you have trouble finding one, I have a couple available, from '89 cars.New ones may still be available, thru GM parts direct, Barney may be able to give you the part number. I believe 88-91 use the same part.
reloader1956 Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 Thank you for the reply. From what I can tell the part is still available, list price $180, dealer $90. Sounds like a lot of profit on this one.
Barney Eaton Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 For the price difference, I would try ones from the junk yard. All GM cars with automatic A/C will have the same module. The part may also be available from auto parts stores as so many GM cars used it.I just checked with my GM dealer and it appears the part was used between 1985-1993 on GM cars.
manikmekanik Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Just unplug it, then remove the 2 screws! </div></div> Just unplug the 2 connectors, after removing the push-thru connector locks, then move them out of the way, toward the rear/firewall. Next, disconnect the connectors to it's left and right, attached to the A/C tubes, and any relays/connectors which look to be in the way. Then, remove the THREE (3) screws, the last one, on the left-rear is hard to reach, use 7mm socket on 1/4" drive swivel-head 6" long extension. Then lift it up as far as possible, and tilt forward to remove.Definately an excersize in digital dexterity!!!
harry yarnell Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I have piles of these! All tested and good. Harvest them at my local dismantling yard. $25 plus ship.
pogonuts Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Harry,Will they work on a 91 Cadillac Sedan DeVille?
manikmekanik Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 It may fit your 91 Caddy, as it fits all years 86-93 Reatta and Riviera.GM part # 16047800 Module, blower mod.Call a GM dealer and ask for the part # which matches your Caddy, for confirmation.
