Headlight Door Problem..

My wife installed a new headlight/foglight switch in our 1990. I'm pretty sure she didn't disconnect the negative battery cable. Could this be the reason that, now, the headlight door motor runs a few seconds before the left door opens and the right door flutters opened and closed before remaining half opened? Also, upon closing the headlight doors, which happens right away, still the motor runs for a second or two. I don't remember this happening before the switch was changed.
