Guest imported_walt in ciniti Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 One of the post said "the serpentine belt is hard to replace"Looking at it, it seems rather easy to replace, what is the difficulty?Where is the best place to get a new belt. GM, Pep boy's, Napa?
Guest F14CRAZY Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I personally don't find it hard to replace, though you do pretty much have to remove the little strut and support by the harmonic balancer.I went to Carquest to get my most recent one, where they have Gates (USA). I think the previous Dayco wore prematurely (the backside wore out, letting the chords go).
jonlabree Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Is it neccesary to support the engine with the mount off?
Guest Kitskaboodle Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I said that...because they COULD HAVE made it easier to service. They COULD HAVE provided enough room around the bottom mount to slip the belt on an off without having to remove the bottom mount.By the way, I use only Goodyear Gatorback belts. (I think they are the best!)Kit / 90 Reatta Coupe
Guest F14CRAZY Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 The mount doesn't support any real weight, so no, the motor does not need to be supported. If in a pinch, like stranded, you could use the lug wrench to bend the mount over a little bit.
Guest Tammy Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I noticed some slight cracks on my belt, probably the orginal belt, what is a good tell tell sign to change the belt.
Roadster90 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Preventative maintenance says now Tammy...this goes for the belt, plug wires, plugs, filters (2), hoses, antifreeze, and of course oils/fluids (ATF)....sorry girl
Guest F14CRAZY Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Where the heck do you buy the Gatorbacks?
cal55 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I was able to remove mine from the bottom without removing any mounts, just one bracket. It's a tight fit but doable,it took me about 15 minutes. Remove the old belt first and you'll see what bracket has to be removed.Joe
Guest EDBS0 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Full points Nic!!!F14; I and the other supercharger guys used them to eliminate slip when we upgraded to the smaller supercharger pulley.
Roadster90 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I imagine the bracket you folks are refering to is the one with the little shock absorber affair maybe? What is that thing anyway . I just tried to ascertain nominclature (big words eh? ) by finding it in the manual and the only area I could find the belt in / on was page 6A8-3 and 4 and there is no mention ....Comments?
Guest F14CRAZY Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I took mine off and didn't put it back. What the heck good is it anyway? I'll put it back when the motor falls out the bottom
