Joe Block Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 do you have a dollar figure in mind?? What is the vontage ofthe materials, 20, 30, 40 50 or 60 or newer??Packards42
marcia919 Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 We would like to try and sell the collection as a whole. $25K is where we would like to be. I am in the process of setting up the collection, this was our Dad's he passed away in dec. so I am just sorting through it. Will try to get an idea year wise, everything is different. From what I am seeing there is not anything as old as 20' or 30's . Probably not as much 40's mostly 50's and up to at least 2005. We have multi rooms filled to the ceilings, as well as a 40 ft trailer which holds the newer stuff he obtained through dealerships. Wish I could be more helpful.
Steve Moskowitz Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Marcia,This is meant to be constructive as we have a semi-annual literature auction and do have a lot of experience with the value of automotive material. Without a cataloging of what you have it will seriously hamper your ability to sell the collection. Also, if the majority of the material is 80's on up the values are not significant. There are literally tons of these items available and we do not even accept donations anymore of this type of material unless they are exceedingly rare. 50's thru early 70's will be of interest but make sure you do not make the mistake of thinking that the sheer volume holds value.
carbking Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Marcia - also trying to be constructive. There are literature dealers who may have an interest, but you may also find the collection easier to move as well as produce more revenue if you break it by make. I would have an interest in the Pontiac material. I am reasonably sure there are other single-marque collectors who frequent this forum.Cataloging (or pictures) will also make the collection much easier to sell.Jon.
marcia919 Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 I know it's a tough sell w/out an inventory. And I know the volume doesn't make the value. I appreciate your input really. I have a huge job here and I know it will be difficult. So no offense taken appreciate the input. I have anticipated a sale right after the Atlantic City Car show as most dealers are in town, I am in NJ. Trying to get the house set up for that option now. Majority is not really 80's and up fortunatly. Majority is 60,70 and up. I will be there tomorrow working what type of info can I gather for Pontiac, I could write down what I have in my Dad's show boxes for now, as for the filing cabinets I will have to locate the pontiac drawers! You may know my Dad, Rod Kohler. He sold literature in Carlisle, hershey macungie, AC and florida. I miss him and I am sure as I pull my hair out with this he is getting a good chuckle! Also what can you tell me about this auction, in case I opt for that option???Thanks Again
