96roadmaster Posted October 31, 2006 Share Posted October 31, 2006 I'm looking for any feedback on the hubcap ornaments that are reproduced by Cars, Inc (www.buickparts.com). Are they aesthetically correct as the originals? Do they have the reflective paint as well?Bottom line is: Are they worth the $240 for the set?Any feedback is appreciated. 96roadmaster Posted November 3, 2006 Author Share Posted November 3, 2006 The ornaments I'm looking at are for the 58 Buick Special, BUT I am still interested in hearing about ANY of the ornaments they offer. I know the 58's aren't too popular around here and the chances anyone has bought a set is slim, so I'm open to firsthand feedback on any year ornaments.As for the 96 Roadmaster, that is my daily driver. I currently have 79k miles on it since new, and absolutely love it. All of our cars are always 100% original, but the Roadmaster is the one I've thrown a few parts at. It shares it's architecture with the Impala SS, which you probably know is well-known in the aftermarket parts suppliers.The Roadmaster is VERY comfortable, VERY powerful, and VERY reliable. Mine has had a few extra issues because of the harder miles, but is still light years better than most other cars. Plus repairs cost pennies.If you want any other information, or have specific questions, feel free to ask. I'm heavily involved with that car and it's crowd, and have both seen and heard them all. We should be able to say positive comments about providers that are serving the hobby well (such as Bob's Automobilia and Clark's Corvair Parts, for instance) and give folks a heads up about the less then positive ones, sucha s CARS, Inc. If a member of this forum had a complaint about any of the suppliers of parts to us members and can substantiate it, then the post should not be removed. If it can not be substantiated, it should be removed.When you buy parts from someone on the other side of the country, you are banking on that person being a man of his word. If we find out that someone is not representing their parts in the correct way, then we should be able to let other members know about the shortcomings.Just my opinion, but if I get ripped off....I will let everyone know. Dominic_Martinelli Posted November 3, 2006 Share Posted November 3, 2006 Well, a few years ago I bought a set of 4 for my '57 Century. These are the red ones with the chrome "BUICK" letters in them. They are very very good reproductions. They match the originals perfectly and really improve the appearance over bled and faded wheel centers. I own a 1996 Roadmaster Estate that I picked up at auction this May for a song. 49k miles, towing package, but not babied at all. It runs great, got 24.6 MPG on the trip to Hershey, and is super-comfortable. My mother has a 1994 Roadmaster Sedan that we bought new in December of 94 as a leftover cheepie. That car has 68k on it and is a great car for the highway. Although the 91-96 Roadmasters have Chevrolet motors, they are very worthy of the Roadmaster name. NTX5467 Posted November 4, 2006 Share Posted November 4, 2006 From what I've observed over the years, due to the volume of items necessary to make them feasible to reproduce at "reasonable" prices, there probably is only one vendor/supplier that everybody else buys from. If there might be some glitches or quality issues, they might mention that as not everybody needs show-grade items items--or let some of the lower-level items go to particular vendors and the ones that fully passsed OEM testing/certification go to the more premium vendors. Basically, you have one supplier and that one supplier sells to "everybody" in the business or well-off friends/customers. And, for a small additional charge, the supplier can even put the vendor's part number on the items they to them.This would be one time where going to major swap meets and visiting the various vendor's booths/displays to see who has what and at what price--plus if they are good enough for what you want to do with them.In some cases, the only place to get something might be from a vendor that others might have had problems with (for one reason or another) and/or prices their items "like gold". If a particular vendor is fronting to have particular items reproduced (themselves), somebody has to pay for getting the whole thing set-up and running and then buy them in sufficient volumes to make it worthwhile. Being an "informed shopper" can pay off in many cases, but some things of high quality will be priced high enough to make you think twice (or three times), but if you need them and they are good enough for what you're going to do, then it's your judgment call as to what to do next.Just some thoughts,NTX5467 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am totally satisfied with everything I have gotten from them. I have seen people complain about them. I have had two miserable experinces with another vendor who lots of people on this board feel is excellent. I have also have nothing but very positive experiences with "Bobs". As far as I'm concerned, I've been happy with their service, support and return policy (I've returned 2 items before).I was just curious about the quality of the hubcap ornaments, since they will be going on a completely restored showcar, and I know they probably buy these from a single vendor.Anyway, I'll take my chances with them and add them to my order.
