What in the world is happening to the quest for petroliana! Wow, yesterday at the Aumann auction in Momence, Illinois a gas globe sold for $10,000!!! There were some bargains it looked like but I continue to be amazed what we pay for signs, bottles, etc! Yes, I am questioning my own sanity as I bid on a few items myself. Got one GREAT item and a bargain to boot! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Ok Steve, we're dying to find out more about your good deal - fill us in! As for the $10k globe, Im not sure thats the first time or a record - but it is pretty amazing. I can recall many years ago looking around behind an old gas dealer's shop on a river-bank in NJ and seeing shattered globes all over the place. It was almost as though when cleaning out the old shop, they just tossed them towards the river bank.

Did I tell you about the two porcelain signs I found at Hershey this year? Both were top of my "want list" - first was a really nice and very early Atlantic "Automobile Gasoline Sold Here" sign in beautiful dark blue porcelain with white letters. Second was double sided Pennsylvania Vacuum Cup Tires sign. That one wasnt so rare but I've been holding out for one in really nice condition. Found them both over in the organge field. Pretty good hunting over there!

Rub it in again, yes you told me about them and showed me them as well! Never will be able to keep up with your great collection!

My great find was a deal but turned out not be the incredible deal I thought it was but I am very happy with the purchase. It was a reproduction gas pump which I thought had an original globe.

Steve, I wouldn't call myself a petroliana or automobilia collector, but I do have a few items that I really like. I once had 600+ different brands of spark plugs, but that is another story. Three sparkplugs can buy you a one year only '37 Harley frame. The beauty of autoimobilia is the fact that you can display it in the house or apartment, in the country or inner city. Cars have been priced out of reach for many people or just fallen out of interest due to owners age or storage costs.

Bob, are you telling me I should keep the spark plugs taken out of my '90 Chevy last week? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I guess over time, even those will be collectable as the auto industry moves on to the next ignition device.

Speaking of collectable, as our fellow tourers were going through the many museums and car collections last week, I kept hearing one or more of our AACA members saying, "That ain't right! That starter/generator didn't come out until way later that this engine!"

or, "That fitting on that old upright gas pump is way wrong, and so is the hose end!" <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Amazing how much information you can pick up in a lifetime. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> For my part, all I have to do is SHUT UP and listen. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
