1988 service manual indicates the purple/grey wire eventually goes to ground.

It appears if you just ground the wire, it will be on all the time.

Try tracing the ground..........

purple/grey changes to purple/yellow at the door connector.

It then goes to S305 splice under the passanger seat....this is a known problem splice...moisture can corrode the splice.

Looks like you're right, Barney. Does Passenger seat have to be removed to get to the wiring underneath? Thnx, Jim

I had the same problem in my 90. The orange wire is always hot and the ground is switched. My problem turned out to be a corroded splice under the passenger seat. I am not sure if the 89's are the same but I can't imagine it would be too different.

89 book - section 8A-114 (can download from Reatta.net) shows splice S305 under the RH passenger seat. Orange wire is hot alla time, ground is through the courtesy light relay.
