89REATTAJIM Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 The red/white light in my driver side door is not working. Getting 12V thru the orange wire, but grey/purple does not go to ground thru the harness. Anyone forsee any problem if I connect into it & ground it to the door?? Have tried with a jumper wire and it works. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Barney Eaton Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 1988 service manual indicates the purple/grey wire eventually goes to ground. It appears if you just ground the wire, it will be on all the time.Try tracing the ground..........purple/grey changes to purple/yellow at the door connector. It then goes to S305 splice under the passanger seat....this is a known problem splice...moisture can corrode the splice.
89REATTAJIM Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 "It appears if you just ground the wire, it will be on all the time." Looks like you're right, Barney. Does Passenger seat have to be removed to get to the wiring underneath? Thnx, Jim
Guest imported_Mark K Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I had the same problem in my 90. The orange wire is always hot and the ground is switched. My problem turned out to be a corroded splice under the passenger seat. I am not sure if the 89's are the same but I can't imagine it would be too different.Mark
padgett Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 89 book - section 8A-114 (can download from Reatta.net) shows splice S305 under the RH passenger seat. Orange wire is hot alla time, ground is through the courtesy light relay.
