Guest imported_MrEarl Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Any one care to critique and give their opinion of the value of this 48 Special currently on eBay. How "original" and correct is the restoration? I really like the lines and art deco styling of the 48 Special especially the fender trim treatment and the clean front grille and hood ornament. 48 Special on eBay
Centurion Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 MrEarl, I agree that the late-1940's Specials are very attractive cars, and they always seem scarce compared to the larger Supers and Roadmasters. This one certainly looks correct to me, but I'm no expert on these. The condition appears to be excellent, although I didn't run the audio/video clips.I'm thinking that Bill Stoneberg might have the best input here about these cars.
Pete Phillips Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Lamar,I would say the car, at its current bid of $7600, is well worth another 75-90% of that. It's a beautiful example, and the only incorrect thing that jumps out at me is the plastic wiring and awful plastic wire looms under the hood, but at least you know it has apparently been rewired. Also, I think the Specials would have had rubber floor mats instead of carpet, but carpet is easier to find than good rubber floor mats, and it won't trap water underneath like rubber will.Pete Phillips
Bill Stoneberg Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Nice car and I wish i needed another....Orange breather cap needs some paint, but beautiful interior. Its interesting the differencesbetween my 47 and this one. Radio on top of the das panel vs down below, and the clock in the door of the glovebox.
Guest imported_JPIndusi Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I have the same car and color. The interior and instrument panel are very nice, the seat fabric is correct. The rear floor, I believe, had carpet while the front floor was rubber. The exterior paint, chrome and stainless are beautiful. A few minor things that do not seem correct:- The engine paint does not look like the turquoise, but my monitor could be off.- The oil filler cap should be engine color.- On one photo there appears to be no rubber stream board under the front door.- As mentioned above, the wiring under the hood needs correction.- The trunk fabric is not correct, I think it should be the tan with brown chain pattern.- The rear bumper guards are reversed, the back-up lights are on the outboard side.My guess based on the last time I checked book value is that this car has several thousand,at least, to go.Joe, BCA 33493
