Hi, I am attaching a pic of the wiper motor and was wondering if there should be another line attached to the place where there is nothing. there is a line going to the carb area. and I see a metal line coming from the fuel pump but it just runs alongside the motor, is that normal or should it be attached to the wiper motor? I will but up a second photo to show this metal line. I bought this car alomost a year ago and have decided to continue restoration and it was like this when I bought it. the wipers move but very little and very slow which is why I was thinking it could be that this line from the pump should be attached to the motor. I would appreciate anyone's help in this, and sorry if it there is an obvious answer, I am just not that mechanical. I do have the 1956 repair manual but could not tell from it about the wipers. Thanks

I'll try this from memory...on the wiper there is only one line-the other which looks like it should be connected to something is exhaust to the outside air-the wiper motor(which comes apart..really!)is a big flap and it is the switching mechanism inside the wiper motor that allows for the vacuum to do alll the work of back and forth motion-to test it connect the only line from the wiper to the manifold vacuum(at the carb) and turn the vacuum switch inside the car on though you can unhook it at the wiper motor and switch it manually if you have doubts about its adjustment status-wet the windshield helps-oh yes of course the car should be running.Anyways if all your vacuum lines are not leaking and you have good manifold vacuum and a decent wiper motor-slow wiping should occur.Cracking the throttle should killl the action until you let off and vacuum increases again. This is why the extra line comes from the fuel pump to offer auxillary vacuum though I wonder if it was ever up to snuff from day one from the factory. That line should also hook on to the vacuum line to the wiper. If the diaphram is bad on the vacuum side of the fuel pump then I think the whole works goes to hell so to speak and the manifold vacuum from the intake can suck oil fumes from the crankcase somewhat and just making a mess-as I recall.I suppose you should be able to also feel vacuum sucking from that line from the fuel/vacuum pump when the motor is running if it is not leaking and alll the lines are tight. One small leak can screw the deal up.

Hope someone will correct me if this is not accurate-its been awhile since I tackled the wiper motor issue.Bottom line-everything has to be in top notch order for the whole issue to work correctly-even a bunch of scum on the windshield can slow things-you need alll the help you can get...pete

thanks pete324, here is my last attempt at pics. so you are saying there is only one vacumm line going into the wiper and that the one in the center is for outside air, makes sense thanks for the info.

hope that gets you on track-let me know how you make out.I looked at my service manual-though its a canadian version-it tells in pretty good detail under the fuel pump heading, all of what I was trying to say from memory.Nice pics though it would have been a treat to see all of whats under the hood-If you're like me,you like to compare whats there with other guys and as well-someone or a mechanic maybe may have altered something that you wouldn't be aware of and I could offer some advice there. If looked at a lot of underhood pics and I can tell pretty quick if it been though a shortcut-obvious things like hose routing and such.Anyways hope you fix your prob. and feel free to ask any questions at all-if I can help..pete
