Does anyone have a line on where one can purchase a new GM 3800 for a 90 Reatta? My local AC Delco distributor tells me they are no longer available. Just a couple of years ago they were available through GM dealers for about $1,800.

Seems odd...try asking GMpartsdirect.com. They've been used in about everything, so I'd think GM would still have new/rebuild engines available

I have seen a couple on e-bay that the seller claimed were new. I do not know of anyway to verify their authenticity.

Why not buy a re-man long block from a reputable source and go from there?

Buick used the 3800 engine not only in the Reatta but in the LeSabre and I think maybe also Park Avenue for several years. My 1991 LeSabre (now in salvage yard) and 1992 LeSabre both have 3800. I think it was used 1988 through 1997. Starting in 1998 (or 1999) I think GM switched the LeSabre and others to 3800 II - which one mechanic commented to me (jokingly) that GM had to rev it to make it less reliable - that 3800 simply lasted too long and GM wasnt selling enough as a result.....

Note though one issue I had with my 1991 LeSabre (after 145,000 miles and often being left out in the winters) was the freeze plugs started to leak coolant and they needed to be replaced.

So in short - look on ebay, or better yet craigslist for someone selling a cheap older LeSabre (or Park Avenue?) with fewer miles but lots of body damage etc.
