DeeBee Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Anyone know if the front door speaker grills can be removed and the speakers just swapped without taking off the inner door panel?I noticed some buzzing and might as well swap them out. I tried to pry them off but stopped before I buggered something up or heard a loud "snap".
Guest CL_Reatta Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 When my door panels were off I dont remember seeing anything to make them removeable, I think it looked like they were attached with little rivet things.
DeeBee Posted September 29, 2006 Author Posted September 29, 2006 Darn. Okay I now know how they did it, those small rivet looking things are part of the grill and they hit them with a heat things of sorts to melt that plastic. On my Fiero the same thing applies to the side speakers but the ones in the dash simply pry up.Thanks for that, I was thinking of trying the mighty muscle but then I'm sure my next post would be "anyone have speaker grills?"
Guest CL_Reatta Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 ya, kinda except after laying on my back (my door panel is loose on the bottom) they look almost as if there is a screw holding them to a retainer on the inside side of the door panel it just looks like a rivet. but if it is a screw you would need to rip the mesh off of the speaker cover to get to it which seems even more dumb.
eddieT Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 The grills have 6 or 8 plastic post that pass through thr door panel and are attached with nuts nat from flat pressed sheet metal. if the nut is sticking up for can remove them with a wrench. If they are reversed I haven't found a tool to remove them. Either way you need to remove the door panel to remove the grills. I have been able to remove the speakers by just prying the panel bottom, sides & middle pins leaving to tops attached. Be sure to remove the door pulls and plastic bevels around the door handle. You should have enought room to get them from the bottom.
