I am currently restoring the interior of a 1940 Buick 81c Limited convertible sedan and need to know if there is carpet on the bottoms of the doors. I could use some good correcr photos of the door panels too. Thanks, Guy.

Guy, I'm hoping that someone here will have the answer to your question. You might want to post it on our Pre-War Buick forum at our site here.

Let me say that a 1940 81C convertible sedan ranks at the very top of my list for desirability among pre-WWII Buicks. Congratulations on finding and restoring such a special car. I hope you'll keep us posted on your progress along the way.

Doug Seybold just finished restoring one and it has won just about every award such a car can win. You could give him a call at 440-835-1193 and ask him about it. He'll be more than happy to talk and share his knowledge.

Here's his car:

I have a repro of the 1940 Limited Sales Catalog. Looks like none of the 80 and 90 series cars

used carpet on the lower door panels. 1928 -1941 Master Body Parts Book shows lower door trim carpet

for 39 and earlier, but none for 1940. Ebay occasionally has an original Limited Sales Catalog but they are pricey. I gather there is nothing left of your panels for use as a pattern. If you are not a member of the Buick Club of America, do so and have access to their technical advisors for 1940.

I got to see Dougs car this summer at the Great Lakes Regional in Columbus, words really can't describe the car or it's history.
