Guest Fr Mike Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Does anyone have ideas about appropriate materials for lining the inside of the (metal)trunk of a 1931 Buick? In that year, as most know, the trunk was seperate from the body and mounted on a luggage rack over the back bumper. The attached photo is, obviously, before restoration, now under way. This trunk was never wood-lined, and is made of heavy enough gauge sheetmetal to be sturdy and without need for internal reinforcement. It wasmade by Potter Mfg. Co. of Jackson, Mich.
Guest Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 My original (accessory) trunk for my Pontiac has no lining. I always thought only the ones with a fold down front and fitted luggage were lined.
Guest Fr Mike Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Apparently some trunks were lined and some unlined.A '31 Buick I am well acquaited with has a metal trunk, similar to my atteched photo, that came from the original dealer in 1931 as a factory ordered option, and was lined with 3/8" plywood covered with a kind of patterned shelf paper type stuff.I don't want to wood-line my car's trunk, as it doen't need it structurally and the wood retains moisture that causes rust.
