priest Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I am getting static from the speakers on the passenger right side of my car only. Could this mean that the front and rear speakers on the right side only are no good?
Guest Tammy Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 I think I have the same thing going on. I turn on my radio and I have 2-3 secs of "normal" radio. Good clear etc..then it is cracking in a sense. I can still hear everything on the drivers side, though lower volume. I remember reading back posts on speaker stuff, so we should search back posts.
bobwhite Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 When mine did that, it was the amplifier output module that was bad. I had to send the complete radio in as the module is in the radio section. One module powers both front and back speakers of one side, so there are two. Have them change the belts of the cassette deck while they are at it. It is just a little more and if you have a problem later with the deck, you have to pay all over again. Since I started using my iPod with a cassette adapter in the deck, I am glad I had it repaired.
olbuickman Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Tammy, Iam a neighbor , I live nearby in Brookfield,Wi. This summer I had an individual who does all radio work for the GM dealers in the Milwaukee area, come to my house test the Reatta's radio.I was getting static and cracking sounds. He quickly isolated the problem, took the radio and cassette and in three days had the unit back in the car.He found the capacitors were leaking and needed to be replaced and while he had the unit out he put a new belt on the cassette drive. Give me a call at 262-860-3622, I will give you all the info. Frank Robb. PS I just bought a 1990 Black on black Reatta convertible this summer. It has 23,000 miles on it. It is a twin to the car I drove for my company car in 1990. I was a factory Rep for Buick for 38 years, the Reattas,Grand Nationals, and Riviera convertibles were some of my favorite cars.
Guest Tammy Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Hi there neighbor! Thanks for the information, I don't think this is something I will be able to fix. (Hoping for a loose connection )I will write your number down in my REATTA NOTEBOOK and give you a call when I have some quiet time. My brother-in-law has a friend that I think does all this radio/stereo fixing stuff. I'm guessing being a youngin he has never worked on a Reatta before. A radio is not as important as a good running engine though, so I may have to file the radio job for a while. What I mean by that is I should spend what NO money I have on a oil change and just have someone give it a good look over. And my right window goes up and down slow, (I'll have to look over posts on that one too.)Congrats on your new baby! What color is your interior? and do you have pinstriping?Brookfield...hummm...is that near Germantown?
olbuickman Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Tammy, my Reatta is black with a black top and saddle trim . The car now has 11 coats of Zaino sealant on it, it looks better than this picture from the summer. The stripe is gold. Frank
bobwhite Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Tammy, I wouldn't get the radio repaired by a friend of a friend. I have been in the Hi-Fi, Stereo, and TV repair business for 51 years, and I didn't have the right test equipment, parts and jigs necessary to repair my radio so I sent it out.
harry yarnell Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 This is a common problem. Has to do with the little green tantalum 2mfd capacitors in the output ckt. Best to send it out to a shop who specializes in Delco radios.Don't overlook the door speakers; the foam cone suspension gets shot with age, and the cone just hangs there in the air.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Claret had the same problem. It's surely in the head unit itself. However, if you haven't, do replace the speakers. You can keep the tweeters though, since they don't go bad. Any name brand will be much better sounding than any stock Delco speaker. And as pointed out, the material deteriorates (have seen it myself) and will be in a little pile in the bottom
Guest Tammy Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 Oh man Frank that is sweet Guess I will have to save my pennies, It might take me a while to get this car looking and sounding like others. With winter coming I have to buy snowpants and boots for the boys.
Guest grkman1 Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Where is the amplifier output module, and how do I get to it....thanks
Guest F14CRAZY Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 In the center console, forward of the armrest, kind of under the window and mirror switches
Guest grkman1 Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 OK I ordered the amplifier output module . How difficult is it to replace it. I understand it is under the console, by the switches. Since I have never taken the console apart, are there any tricks to this. Thanks for your help
