GrebeMaster Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Hi all I am a new member I bought a 1987 cutlass literally from a little old lady who was the original owner. She bought it new and drove it for about 50,000 then she blew the motor. I don't know how or why, maybe it had no oil in it. She then had a replacement motor put in, but according to the story I got, it never ran right, she put 15,000 more on it and parked it in the yard for several years. I bought it for $400 and it ran like crap, was skipping and couldn't get out of it's own way. i took it to my mechanic and he put a new choke pull off or something and it runs great now. But it is leaking oil from somewhere and it blows oil on start up and sometimes while driving. now my question is, if this motor only has 15,000 to 20,000 miles on it why is it blowing oil? Because it sa for several years? Does that mean it might be the rings? Or is it more likley valve stem seals? Should I think of scraping the motor? It runs fine other than the smoke. How much should I expect to pay for vale stem seals? Thanks allsteve
