West Peterson Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Any idea what this is? The oil pan is situated at an angle. Head is missing. Cast aluminum.
Guest Stllrng. Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I can tell you EXACTLY what that RACING engine is!!!! But first, do you want to part with it?? Also, are there any letters or numbers stamped into the left rear engine mounting leg? Feel free to send me a PMThanks, -Fred

The numbers on one of the horns reads GK on one line, with 31092 below it.
1937hd45 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Your off to a flying start. http://www.rogersandcompany.biz/images/buick/bob_burman_b.jpg
Guest Stllrng. Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 What you have there is a 30-HP White. That style block was used in cars from 1913-1915, and trucks up to 1927. Given the "GK" prefix on the serial number, I would say it is a truck block circa 1918-1920. A key that it is fairly early is that it does not have "White" script cast into everything. As the years passed, they put their logo onto more and more parts. As for the basic specs, 3 3/4 bore, 5 1/8 stroke.ball bearing main bearingsroller camshaft. There is a lever at the rear of the block that moves the cam forward in the block, this brings a small set of cam lobes into play that gives it a compression relief when starting. It has a dual oil pump that takes oil from a remote tank and feeds oil to the front and rear main bearings. All of the bearings except the rods are ball bearings and can still be bought off the shelf, including the main bearings.I have a few spare parts, including the crank shaft and the side cover for the base.I will try and see if I can date it more closely with that serial number from the engine mount.-Fred

No, huh? Perhaps a display engine isn't in my future. The crank is present, also a transmission, although I'm not sure they go together. I'll post a photo of the tranny if you're interested. There also seems to be some starter/generator parts that may, or may not, be part of the lot.
Guest Stllrng. Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Believe me, put that White engine together and you WILL impress all of your friends!! I would be very interested to see the photos of the other parts, and I am sure I would be able to tell if they are from this power house. That is a great engine you have there.-Fred
