JohnD1956 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I heard from a unameable source that there will be a LaCrosse Super. No other details though.. Too bad, we already bought our LaCrosse...
jscheib Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Is this the one someone mentioned was sent to a photo shoot back in maybe June, for a public release sometime late summer? John
NTX5467 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 From what I understand, the vehicle that was supposed to surface at a golf event did not. The last I heard, it will be on the existing LaCrosse platform and V-8 -- whether the "V-8" will be the 5.3L V-8 (as the current Impala SS and Grand Prix GXP) or a Northstar remains to be seen, as all they've mentioned so far is a horsepower figure.I know we've been expecting a RWD car, it looks like this one will be FWD. The GXP got pretty favorable reviews in CAR AND DRIVER, but the Impala SS was less so. So if you put the massive V-8 power in that platform with more of a luxury orientation and good handling (some might disagree with that in a fwd car) with (as quoted in the C&D road test) 0-100mph times in about 15 seconds, it'd be nearly as awesome as the last GNs. In any event, the limiting factor is the strength of the transaxle (why it might be the Northstar and its heavier-duty transaxle -- OR a 6.0L with the Northstar's transaxle). In any event, a little tweaking could well put it into "Hemi Hunter" Territory (just like the old days, hehe).Hopefully, something more concrete might come out before the supposed Spring, 2007 intro. I believe it is supposed to have some unique front sheetmetal or similar, but that remains to be seen as to just how different it might be for a lower production vehicle. I highly doubt we'll see the (desired) version of the new Monaro platform (rwd) in this vehicle--besides North American Buicks need to be made in North America (I firmly believe).Just some thoughts (with information for various sources and some gut suspicions),NTX5467
