Guest Tammy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I've been reading past posts, and this forum is GREAT. The knowledge here is just unbelieveable. Can anybody give me a heads up as to what to check out on this 1991 convertible I'm looking at. At auction I won't be able to drive it. Probably just look and listen. I'm very excited, but don't want to buy a lemon either. (GM gave away 91's to tech schools?!)Anything would be helpful. Thanks
padgett Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 If you download the database from reatta.net think Barney has collected most of the 91 converts by serial number and can see the details if listed. I assume you can get the VIN.
Guest Tammy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Thanks padgett, I'll look into that database now and call for the vin # tomorrow. It's funny I used to be so ontop of all this car stuff before kids!
Guest wally888 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I would check for codes set! Key on or start engine, press off and warm (temp up arrow) and read/record codes set BCM,Ecm,etc. Note if Current or History © or (H). You can clear codes-read and re-check, instructions at reatta.net Push Bi-level to exit diagnostics. Easy to spend $2000 for new shocks, tires, sensors, maybe flush brakes (vac system on 91=better than earlier models), flush transmission, etc to preserve the car.
manikmekanik Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 As noted, the problem cars were destroyed, or donated to trade/tech schools. This is part of the reason so few 1991 convertibles were released to the public (153).Their rarity is due to the low numbers-production(305)/released(199).Barney's database confirmed our 91 was one of 7 built, only 2 of which ever saw the road. It also noted that GM kept the last Reatta convertible built, (identical to ours!), for the GM Heritage collection.
