Reatta45
The other night I pulled in to a friends drive, stopped and noticed this very NASTY, black as ink, oil dripping from under my ?91 coupe (164k miles)? It?s coming from the left engine ?motor mount???? Have you had this fail? It seems to be a rather pricy mount. KennyV.
Guest F14CRAZY
Never had a mount fail like that. Are you speaking of the little shock by the harmonic balancer? They indeed are expensiv and was around $70 from the dealer.
Jim
If you are referring to the one up on the front of the engine near the AC compressor, I have heard they are gel or liquid filled. I have several Reatta parts cars and do have a good one available. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.comP.S. Reatta45
Hello again Jim? Yes that is the left side of the engine mount, just behind the A/C compressor? It is filled with some very black oil, makes a big mess. Are these prone to failure? I have found prices from a high of over $225.00 down to under $70 at the auto parts stores and wholesalers ? Do you think a used one will be ok? I can?t imagine why they would use an oil filled engine mount , there are some very nice shock absorbing rubber mounts made that have been in service for ever. Thanks for price and your opinion as to replace with new or used, KennyV.PS I have sent you an email....
Reatta45
Philip? Nope not the shock damper at the front ? That one is fine, also has nowhere near this amount of oil in it? This is the large bag of oil on the engine?s left side? KennyV
Guest F14CRAZY
I see.If I was replacing it, I'd go new, since they're all old and going to fail sooner or later. I'd try gmpartsdirect.com for about a half-off genuine GM replacement, if you haven't used them before. Or, one from a good auto parts store, like NAPA
Reatta45
Jim Finn comes through AGAIN?.Thanks for the mount Jim, installed this evening. No problems car on my lift, unbolt old mount, lift engine less than 2 inches it slipped right in.If there are some without an oil charge like you thought, they will NOT have the large aluminum ?pop rivet looking? charge port on the side.New parts are fine, but for easy to replace pieces, when I can I will use a used Reatta part, just to make it worth wile for those that keep parts cars around for the rest of us? Thanks again Jim? KennyV.
