Got my Buick and now seek the wisdom of the gods

After many months I have moved my 28-20 from the prior owners to her new home in the country 250 miles away. Upon a closer inspection, there is more rust than I first noticed and I may go through the whole body removal routine. Not sure yet. I should have many questions and appreciate any advice you can spare.

Question: This car has whitewalls that are very stained due to the car sitting under a carport unattended for over 10 years. Most of the stains are wheel rust related and does not wash out. Is there any product on the market or homemade concoction that will remove some of this stain. My options down the road are to try to clean or buy 5 new tires. I guess I could also flip them to the inside and go with blackwalls. Did cars in 1928 have whitewalls?

Question: The upholstery was redone about 15 years ago in a very ugly green colored wool but not too ugly for the moths to feast on for a decade. While I do not plan on entering the car in any competitions, I do want to restore to as close to original as possible. Since moths eat wool, is there an upholstery fabric out there that is close to wool in feel and texture but is not as eatable? If so, who sells it.

Thanks for yout time.

Welcome Richard...

Tires, If it was me, I would save my pennies for a new set of tires and tubes. After so many years, they have to be dry rotted and unsafe at any speed. If you just want to clean them up to make them pretty,. Blechleys Bleach White will take about anything off. It will dry your tires out though so be forwarned.

Where in Texas are you located ? There are 3 active BCA Chapters in Texas and any one of them will have resources to help you.

Dear Richard:

There's a Buick Club chapter in San Antonio, so you're in luck. Send me a PM and I'll get you to the director there.

Regards, Dave Corbin, South Central Regional Director, Buick Club
