Guest Kitskaboodle Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 My mechanic said replacing the serpentine belt on my car was a PITA. He showed me the clearance between the crankshaft pulley and the bracket/strut tower and I couldnt believe how tight it was. He said he had to remove one of the motor mounts and jack the motor up just to take off the serpentine belt. Was your Reatta like this or could it be that my engine has shifted/moved a little too much towards the passenger side of the car, reducing the clearance?Kit / 90 Reatta Coupe
Guest F14CRAZY Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Reatta's are like that. In most cases, that little mount needs to be removed. However, there's no real weight on this, and you do not have to jack up the motor or anything. In a pinch, I was able to move it over enough with the lug wrench to slip the belt past it. The strut by the air con compressor also needs to be removed (15 mm)
Guest MauiWowee Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 A message for your mechanic:
Guest F14CRAZY Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I didn't whine about replacing my belt, and your mechanic is getting paid to do it
