I need some help, but not Buick related????

I've asked this question on some other sites, with no response, so I posting it here, hoping some of our members can shed some light. My father-in-law ownes a '93 Lincoln Town Car. The right rear door is locked, and will not open from the inside or outside. You can hear the power lock solenoid operating, but evidently something has come apart in the door. Because the door is locked and unable to be open, the door panel cannot be removed to inspect to see what the problem is. Does anyone know of a way to get the door unlocked? I was thinking that maybe with the window down, something could be slid down inside and pop it open, but I have no idea what to use, where to fish, or what to fish for! Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

When this has happend to my GM cars it was usually related to the door catch sticking . In one case though the stuck door catch did result in bent linkage from the handle to the catch.

I suggest lowering that window and trying to spray the catch assembly with PB blaster. That might free it up enough to get it open. Meanwhile, if the other rear door opens, I would get that door panel off for clues to what you need to catch on the stuck side, and I would clean that catch assembly with some brake cleaner and then grease it with fresh white lithium grease.

Also once you know where that catch is, then maybe you can spray some pb blaster between the door and body just above to just below the catch, then when pulling the release, try whacking the door on the inside by the catch to shake it loose.

These things are a pain, and none of this may work, so don't break your hand.

John had a great suggestion.

Also two other things to try. The hinges could be sagging, so try lifing up on the outside handle while you try to pull open the door.

You may not like this idea, but you could put a towel over the door panel to protect it, then have someone lay on the seat and kick (not too hard) the door from the inside while someone outside tries to open it.

If that doesn't work call Pop-A-Lock or some other lock-out service to see if they can get the door lock actuator to fully release the lock assembly.

Good luck.

Thank's guy's for all the suggestions,I'll try them all. Never did give it a thought to remove the opposite door panel, to see what I'm up against. See, it pays to ask.

Easy, take out the back seat, then you can get the door panel out and really get to the root of the problem..
