reschke132 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I need help with all those items. i have them, i just need help with the install. Or help with an online manual. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />the auto parts store said it would take 7-10 days to come in. I need my car back now.
Guest F14CRAZY Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Spark plugs are straight forward, but it can be difficult to get to the rears, and difficult if they haven't been out in a long time. A couple extentions help. I don't use a torque wrench, and I probably should, but I'm satisfied with "plenty snug".I've never actually done a PCV valve on an LN3. The fuel filter is underneath the car, about where the driver's feet are. Relieve pressure of the system first (I've had a fuel pressure gauge to to this with, but I think there's a fuse you can pull for it, and start it and let it run out of gas). And please wear safety glasses (did regret not using them once when doing a fuel filter). The connections on it are simply threaded. Do be prepared to catch any gas out of it and have a fire extinguisher nearby.
Machiner 55 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 The biggest PITA you'll have is with the PVC Valve replacement. It's buried underplug wires, wiring harness etc. I recommend replacing the Grommet PN-1381487 because it shrinks and becomes brittle offering little or no seal. Grommet PN-25536368 should also be replaced while your at it. But be very careful when removing either of them as the lip of the grommets [color:"red"] (see attached) that snug up on the inside of the holes in the intake manifold wants to stay on the inside and will probably break away from the main body of the grommet when being removed. If its the doughnut shaped grommet that breaks off, it probably wont hurt anything as there is a pan bolted to the bottom of the manifold that will hold it but, if it's the grommet with the tube on it that breaks off inside the manifold well... I'd take whatever steps nessesary to recover the broken off piece. Even if it requires removing the intake manifold itself because [color:"red"] it will get sucked into one of the cylinders. Not Good. If your not willing or able to go that far maybe you should forget changing out that one. PS. These grommets are dealer aquired parts. Good luck. Also see the next two following posts for more photos.Addendum:You may want to rethink replacing even the doughnut shaped grommet(PN-1381487). I'm currently replacing the intake manifold gaskets on my '89 so I have the manifold on a bench. I found that the new grommet is so pliable that when you try to push the PVC valve into the grommet it deflects and wants to go into the hole. The task is easily done with the pan removed as the grommet can be supported from the bottom. But, with the manifold still on the engine it's a whole 'nother ballgame. Perhaps a tube of Black RTV is in order???
Rawja Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Great pics, John. The Parts picture is especially informative. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Roadster90 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I tried to make copies of Reatta John's pictures and was unable....could only get a portion (valve and crimp ring "sold separately" section). I tried "portrait" style print function as well as regular or just plain print....is there something I am not doing? Thanks,Nic
Guest F14CRAZY Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Somewhere in your print menu, there should be something like a "scale to fit" option. Sounds like that's your issue there Mister Walker
Roadster90 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 F 14 >>>> nothing like that. All I have is portrait and landscape. I have a HP 2610xi. ?Thanks,Nic
Guest F14CRAZY Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Hmm...it is kinda long and skinny so printing would be odd. Have to be on legal paper or something.Since in the photo I looked at seems to be two scanned pages, I'd bring them into the simple photo editing/printing program of your choice. Crop it in half, and print. Then for the other half, either undo and crop the other part, or delete that image and bring in another downloaded copy (or duplicated copy). I've been riding in the van all day and all I have is my Alltel PocketPC <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Roadster90 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 F 14 ,We can just forget about all of that stuff .... I really do not know how set a radio alarm clock .....actually almost feel very fortunate to be able to answer a post <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. Sincere thanks for your efforts, but I am getting out a pen and paper to copy the information Thanks,Nic
Machiner 55 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Nic,I don't know if there's anything I could tell you to help you. I labor just to get this stuff out there.
Shelby Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 The fuel filters can be a sob. One spark and it is all over. If you are replcing plug put on new wires. Chances are you won'r be able to get all 6 boots off without breaking one. New wires will make as much of a difference as plug. Change them one at a time then you won't get them mixed up
Guest MauiWowee Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Nic....does this help? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> [/image] [/image] [/image]
Roadster90 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Maui!!!!! You came through again ! Thank you sir <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
